With so many new mechs being posted I would love to see some fluff. It's always been one of the things I loved most. The reason behind a design for me is usually as important as the design itself.
And I know I have more than a few mechs that are fluffless but the rate they come in now is staggering. _________________ Stinger If it's "creepy" to use the Internet, military satellites, and robot aircraft to find a house full of gorgeous young models so I can drop in on them unexpected, then FINE, I'm "creepy". That's a good thing, the rate anyways! I've always been one myself that would design a 'Mech without the fluff. I guess it really depends on why you're designing something. But I can understand that regardless of any in-history fluff, one can always include rationale into certain decisions/reasons for doing something. _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

Oh I agree I love the rate of new designs. If its got a special name designation its special enough to warrant some fluffy words of love. _________________ Stinger If it's "creepy" to use the Internet, military satellites, and robot aircraft to find a house full of gorgeous young models so I can drop in on them unexpected, then FINE, I'm "creepy". IDEA!
Mordel, put in a fluff flag; maybe make a check box on the fluff section that enables the fluff boxes. Then add a search parameter for fluff. People can then filter out fluffless designs.
You could also add a text string that is placed in the title of any designs auto-posted on the forum stating something like [Test Design] or [No Fluff]. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.

I wouldn't really need a flag or checkbox. I think the end user either enters fluff or they don't. As for filtering, it's easy enough to add a 'Fluff' search criteria with options of 'Contains' or 'Not Contains'.
I'm not too keen on auto-updating titles and what-not, even if it is just on the forums. The fact fluff doesn't exist is fairly self-evident by the lack of it. _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

Issue I have with fluff is it's forgotten about. Sure they have tried to tie it in with the Quirks, but that too is badly handled rule wise. I recall the Original TRO3025 had some interesting fluff to add in the oddites of a certain mech.
Also sometimes fluff isn't there when you make the mech, I can't always figure out which faction would use it or who would make it. _________________ Karagin Only the dead have seen the end of war. - Plato

I tend to think most people make 'Mechs just for fun and to play in one-off games, without any intention of trying to tie it into the universe somehow. Well, at least that's the case for me. _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

Lately I don't design a mech until inspiration hits. I think of the design then the fluff. Finish working my daytime soul sucking job come home and try for the life of me to remember my earlier brilliance, then give up modify it and post.
Not the best process, I know. But it works-ish. _________________ Stinger If it's "creepy" to use the Internet, military satellites, and robot aircraft to find a house full of gorgeous young models so I can drop in on them unexpected, then FINE, I'm "creepy". Howard Wolowitz. BBT.

That's kinda like when you walk into a room, then instantly forget why you walked into it! Sucks when you have a good idea in the morning that is gone by the time you can do anything about it. _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

Lol. Yeah i was working the other day and composed a song as I went. About a verse in I realized it was actually pretty good and I should write it down.
