Overview:
Initially concepted in 3055 as the "Raiden", the Mech was the brainchild of Precentor
Martial Anastasius Focht. His proposal called for a fast-moving Heavy Battlemech in the same
vein as the Dragon. A machine which could perform a multitude of combat roles and survive
thanks to a combination of superior speed and heavy armor. Internal bickering over doctrinal
issues and the loss of Terran-based manufacturing firms delayed production of the machine,
even after the design was finalized. When the machine finally reached production, it was
renamed Focht, in honor of the retired Precentor Martial. The production FCT-7 would see
extensive use by the ComGuards during the Blakist Jihad, and would prove itself to be a
rugged and reliable option for virtually any assignment.
Capabilities:
While ComStar debated the merits and purpose of this new design, Grumian Creations grew
concerned for the future of thier investment. The company decided to hedge its bets with the
new design, and incorporated provisions for more specialized equipment. Room would be made
for Hand actuators, Melee weapons, advanced electronics and Missile Launchers.
The final production model, the FCT-7, would utilize then cutting-edge Variable Speed Pulse
Lasers, three Medium and three Small models. In addition, the FCT-7 would utilize a
Retractable Blade for Melee combat, and a Beagle Active Probe to increase its sensor
capabilities. These sophisticated systems are wrapped in an impressive 11 tons of Heavy
Ferro-Fibrous Armor. The Mechs 86kp/h top speed allows it to reliably deliver damage to the
enemy, wherever they may be.
With the exception of its VSP Lasers, the Focht was constructed with reliable and
easily-replaced components, making it a rugged, and easy to maintain design. Mysteriously,
spare parts and even brand new FCT-7s have appeared within the Inner Sphere as late as the
3150s, leading many to conclude that the mysterious "Site Delta" is an automated factory of
some sort, continuing to biuld Focht Battlemechs and spare parts long after ComStar itself
has vanished. Whatever the reason, this steady supply of chassis and parts mean that the
FCT-7 and its variants will persist well into the next century.
