While not an original idea, I thought I'd revisit it. As we all know, the IS XL Engine is terrible but allows for a much heavier payload. Thus, the LF Engine has often served as an IS fan favorite post-release. I thought i'd pay around with another option, what I am calling the XLT Engine.

XLT engine's utilize tech gleaned from the rediscovery of XL technology, the development of the LF engine, and Clan tech reverse engineering to develop a less expensive survivable alternative to a Clan XL that saves more weight than a LF engine. While this goal was worthwhile, it proved more difficult to obtain without greatly increasing the cost via the use of Clan technology. However, one engineer found inspiration from an unlikely source that had previously not been considered: large fusion engines. Classic military grade fusion engines have been dimensionally constrained, and all of the bulk of lighter variants has traditionally been forced to be spread predominately laterally. However, the heavily inefficient Large fusion engine breaks this mold by trading weight efficiency for a larger vertical containment jar necessary to produce the higher energy output required by these engines to be effective. The engineer realized that the alternative containment design of the Large engine could also be utilized at lower power output levels but at the expense of a total weight 132% that of existing military engines. While the result would be an engine that was slightly smaller laterally yet taller, its practical use appears when combined with light and extra-light construction materials. The alternative containment design resulted in the increased bulk of light and extra-light technology spreading out both vertically and laterally resulting in the heavier concentration of vulnerable engine components into the core of the mech. This change thus resulted in an engine at less risk of being disabled by the destruction of a mech's side-torsos.

Tall Engine - Impractical Design
Weight: Engine Rating Weight x 1.32
Crit: 6 CT
Cost: Same as standard.

LTF Engine - Impractical Design
Weight: Engine Rating Weight x 0.99
Crit: 8 CT, 1 LT/RT.
Cost: Same as LFE.

XLT Engine
Weight: Engine Rating Weight x 0.66
Crit: 8 CT, 2 LT/RT.
Cost: Same as XL.

I mean, it technically works. Cost should be more since it's "extremely rare". How does weight compare to their counterparts?

Right, but I meant, when looking at the LTF, what is the weight of a regular LF engine by comparison?

XL is 0.5 x standard, LFE is 0.75 x standard.
