Overview:
This is almost a lost design. I remember the basic idea, but apparently I don't have any
files for it sitting around. As such details may of changed and I'm certain the name was
changed from whatever it used to be. Since the Stymphalian was definitly an early days VTOL
design for me. But... the name also fits clan naming conventions well and there is nothing
stopping 2 different cultures from using the same source material when picking names.
Capabilities:
Reasonably quick by modern standards the Stymphalian is an anti-armor design intended to
help neutralize the vehicular advantage the Inner Sphere has over the clans. With an
estimated 3 to 5 vehicles formations fielded for every mech formation, they are a persistent
presence on the battlefield that serve only to distract Mechwarriors from honorable and
glorious combat against worthy foes.
With their heavy SRM racks the Stymphalian is intended to rush down the flanks of vehicle
formations and shred their vulnerable sides. Even if the vehicle survives, it's likely to
be rendered combat ineffective due to motive damage in short order. With only 8 salvos per
launcher the Stymphalian's endurance is not particularly high, but this is considered a
feature rather then a bug. Once the ammo is depleted the pilots, who can be just as blood
thirsty as their mechwarrior cousins, are forced to withdraw; hopefully before their machine
needs too much in the way of repairs.
Variants:
One in five Stymphalians is a point commander variant, trading launcher capacity in favor of
a Narc Missile Beacon Launcher. This helps considerably if the point finds say an enemy
mech that deserves their concentrated attention.
