I just have to post this here, it's one of the funniest things I've seen in a while. WARNING: Consuming food or drink while reading this is unreccomended.

It must be cause I dont like D&D (or many RPGs not starting with "The Elder Scrolls" for that matter that I truly dont find this one all too amusing...
BUT....this one, on the other hand, is pure genius and should be held in such high esteem, that esteem would be holding it above its head.

Actually, i have had this lame cold all weekend...
And its not that I dont like the way it plays, I just dont like the D&D universe itself. I'd much rather spend my time in Star Wars, Middle Earth or Elder Scrolls universes. They just fit my personality better...

I don't know Elder Scrolls, but I love the others. I've seen Star Wars over 1500 times....
I like to determine fate. I like DMing....

"The Elder Scrolls" is a roleplaying series from Bethesda Software for the Computer. The main games.."Arena", "Daggerfall" and "Morrowind" all emphasis a totally open ended system where you can do pretty much what you want (Join the mages guild? SUUURE! Wanna be a thief? Go Ahead!), and also provides a very in depth story, full of twists and turns. The cool thing is that you can jump in and out of the story when you feel you want to. Very open ended system to work with.
The sheer scale of the games is incredible. Arena allowed you to explore an entire continent, Daggerfall limited you to an area the size of about Europe (smaller, but more detail), and Morrowind scales down to about the size of a medium sized country, but tons more detail.
2 Other games have been relased in the series, but off the beaten path. TES: Battlespire is more of a "D&D Meets Doom" in an action oriented RPG. You still level and use skills, like an RPG, but there are levels to beat. The other game is Redgaurd...and you get to be a pirate of sorts.
The universe itself is pretty standard. Humans and 3 types of Elves (High, Wood and Dark) are the major races, but there are some others. The half-cat species is here, as is a lizard-man sort. Orcs are around, but rare outside of the Warthgorian Mountains, and unlike mahy series, the Orcs here are intellegent and deal as much in espionage and backstabbing as they do straight on combat. Dwarven materials and technologies are around, but the Dwarves themselves are more or less gone. The cool species is the Daedra. In game terms, "Daedra" is the elven word for Demon. They come fron another dimension, called Oblivion (pretty much its hell) and they just like to toy with those in Tamriel. The lessar Daedra are serious foes in the games, while the uber powerful ones are pretty much worshiped as gods.
Anyways, it is a rich universe here, and its a shame Bethesda hasnt made a pen and paper variant yet...

As far as online comics go, gimme Sluggy Freelance (Fear the bunny!) and College Roomies from Hell!!! (three exclamation points for excellence).
