allows it no minimum range while the standard PPC does?
And why has this not been retro-fitted onto a standard PPC?
The IS should have long ago made an iPPC with same stats as a PPC minus the min range.

I think the *real* explanation is that the folks at FASA didn't think it through.
The PPC and ERPPC should, even the Clan versions, have the same or similar minimum range, just a longer maximum range. After all, we're talking about particles being fired out of a mechanism and not, say, missiles whose warheads need time to arm.
IMHO, FASA just should have removed the minimum range if they were going to say the ERPPC didn't have one.

Because the IS are idiots (literally) as their poor intelligence due to their inferior genetic lineage makes it impossible for them to literally reverse-tech the numerous Clan ERPPCs in their possession.
And of course, the scourge throughout all History, what really stopped the IS from reforming a lasting Star League... lawyers.

I think it has more to do with a slightly different buildout of the weapon itself.
Things like focusing arrays and beam coherency controls that are built using a more advanced, differently featured weapon system that have been combined per the Clans use of just slapping together the best features of Improved, ER and Compact PPC's.
Requires more knowledge and a better technology base. I could have the different PPC's wrong, same idea.

| since the ER PPC is a old star league design it is a very good point; old rules for game balance? or give mg and small laser purpose?
