Overview:
Based on the reverse engineering of a BGS-1T 'Barghest' heavy mech, the CRBN-55A 'Cerberon'
was the Blackshield Company's attempt at creating their own 'mech design that could be
feasibly produced more than once despite the limited resources available and still be an
effective enough unit to justify both production and deployment into the frontline scenarios
that the military's combat vehicles could not manage.
The result was the almost confusingly multi-purpose CRBN-55A; a heavily armed, decently
armored heavy mech that could engage almost any unit at almost any range and fulfil a
variety of combat roles to a sufficiently competent degree. Far from an exemplar at any
field, the CRBN-55A instead excels at being equally useful an asset in any and all combat
scenarios no matter the role expected or required of it.
Despite this and the initial intent to create a truly independent 'mech design, each
Cerberon represents a rare and uniquely important investment from the Blackshield Company
whose loss cannot be truly afforded. As such, they are rarely seen deployed as proper 'mech
lances, instead being mostly used as force multipliers and mobile command units for Combat
vehicle formations.
Capabilities:
Despite not specializing at any role, the CRBN-55A 'Cerberon' can prove an effective unit
for any combat scenario. A pair of light PPCs provide medium to long range fire capabilities
while two turret mounted medium pulse lasers allow for reliable damage at close range.
Finally, an ER flamer further enhances close range effectiveness while also acting as an
infantry deterrent.
While the CRBN-55A lacks the extensive armoring of other heavy mechs, it makes up for such
with good speed and an integrated Guardian ECM suite which allows it to better avoid
exposure and avoid enemy hits. When paired with the innate ability to crouch that all
quad-mechs have, the CRBN-55A can prove much more survivable than expected at first glance,
so long as it is used right.
Lastly, the inclusion of a Cockpit command console ensures that it can not only provide
relatively unique benefits to any force it is a part of but also act as a secondary ECM
suite should the enemy have ECCM capabilities, thus effectively ensuring that an extensive
investment has to be made by enemy forces in order to truly counter the debilitating effects
of electronic warfare.
Deployment:
The CRBN-55A 'Cerberon' can be theoretically deployed anywhere with relatively equal
effectiveness. That said, a jack of all trades is a master of none; the CRBN-55A cannot be
relied upon to beat specialists at their own game. It is best used as a force multiplier for
existing specialist 'mechs, filling the gaps where necessary and switching roles on the fly
as the flow of battle demands.
Variants:
Due to its unique nature, the CRBN-55A 'Cerberon' has no variants; such a thing could not be
afforded by its creators, the blackshield company, while inner sphere powers have no need to
rely on the relatively primitive technologies of an insignificant Junta in the deep
periphery.
Notable MechWarriors:
Anyone in control and command of a CRBN-55A 'Cerberon' can be regarded as a notable man
within its 'nation' of origin. This, sadly, does not mean that anyone other than said nation
has ever heard of them.
