Ok, so the basic boxed set will be re-released. Fine, but the only way to get the 3067 map is to buy the boxed set...at least for the forseeable future.
1) How many players of the game don't already have a copy of BT2,3,4, BMR(r) and maps or something? I mean yes some basic version needs to be available to the incoming new players (assuming there will be some), but this leads me to question 2.
2) Does this seem to anyone else to just be a ploy to get the faithful to buy a copy of the game in order to get a map?

1) Just about all of us.
2) Yes.
It's called a "teaser" and many companies in lots of different fields do it. I for one am happy to see FanPro doing something like this--it shows to me that FanPro is being run by people that understand the business world.

So I'm suppossed to drop 30 bucks just to buy something I already own (The game rules, maps, counters, sheets) just for a map I don't have? A map that may or may not be made available somewhere else later?
Can't do it, G.
I'm not a completist. I don't care if I have the map or not. If offered seperately I would probably buy it, but I'm not buying a "New and Improved!" copy of a game I already have. I din't buy 3rd edition, or 4th edition because I already had the rules, maps, record sheets, etc.. and I won't buy this 5th edition for the same reason.
I wish would stop being swayed by the idea of completing a collection and companies going off of that. Give me a quality product and you'll get my money. Keep giving me the same thing over and over and expecting me to buy it based on one little "bonus" and you get none of my money.

In this case that teaser isn't enough for you to buy it and you made your choice. Others may think that poster is a good enough reason and they'll buy it.
Is FanPro counting on people wanting to buy it to keep their collection complete? I'd suspect the answer is yes. Do I blame them or find fault with that? Nope, not in the least. Its done in a lot of other hobbies so I see no problem with it

1) Very few...
2) In part, yes...that is GOOD BUSINESS SENSE...
*SHOCK*
I agree with chihawk...I'd be surprised if they didn't do something like this, and I'm glad they are...it shows they are SERIOUS about Classic BattleTech (of course, if you look at the range of other material that is coming out, just by the end of this year, you'd see that there too)...
Of course, I'm not only going to get the set for the map, but also for the new artwork that will be in it (that's the reason I've gotten alot of the books I have, especially some of the EarthDawn sourcebooks and all of the anime books I have that are written in Japanese), as well as to be able to read over the 16 page quick-start rule book to be able to compare it to the 64 page rule book that is also included in the set...and the 48 page book detailing the setting and the 'Mech...
BTW, Cadet, still believe we won't be seeing the AeroTech2 record sheets?

If the boxed set has substantial changes to the game, or at least a ton of new artwork and new mapsheets, then it might be worth picking up. But I agree that it is not worth it just for a poster.

i don't want to get a newbie to pick up the 4th edition then hafta explain to him what's different in BMR.

A good point, a new edition is in order.....I wonder though how they are going to set it up with only level 1 tech or are they going to make level 2 available in the box set?

Hopefully level 2 tech, but I`ll buy a box in any case. I like BattleTech. And since I don`t drink very much and quit smoking over two years ago, why not waste money on it?

And even then, assuming Lance puts out a 3067 PDF, it will still be an expensive proposition for a hard copy.

Though your comment is rather pessimistic, you do answer your own question.

Depends on how much you want that map. If you really want it, it'll be worth the $30 bucks. If you don't think it's worth it, then save your cash. But hey, we can't get new blood into the game without a base set to start off with.

Actually, although I've got a ton of BT stuff, I don't own a regular BT boxed set. I started off with CityTech2 so I never really needed one. Now I've got a good excuse to buy one.

Don't look for a PDF version of it soon. FanPro want it to be only fully available in the boxed set for quite a while (year++). They might consider selling it on it's own later, but that is up to them.

I'll wait until someone sells the map up on Ebay, it'll be cheaper than buying the boxed set. If they had addes some plastic minis to the boxed set, than yeah, I would buy it!
