I have a dilemma. Just recently some strange happenings occured on my computer. I lost all the sound! Now, I was tempted to say my sound card was fried, but, if I use Musicmatch Jukebox, I can still play CDs. I can't play MP3s from my files, just music CDs.
I don't get anything on Windows Media PLayer, or even just the normal beeps of Windows. Games don't even make noise right now!
BTW, I'm running XP, and Soundblaster Live!

Did you accidently turn the sound off (not the speakers, the sound)?
I'm not sure if Win XP is any different, but in Win 98 there is a little bell icon in the lower right hand corner. Double clicking on this brings up a panel with which various sound channels can be altered. You might have turned one down or muted one.
Also, jukebox sucks. Pick up a copy of winamp.

When I first switched to XP I lost the sound too. It was a winupdate download that did it to me. It turned on the onboard PC sound on the motherboard and overrode the sound card. I just used the system restore on the system tools menu to timewarp back to just before I accepted the update and all was well. Very handy improvement that one.

Unistall the OS and get yourself a copy of Win98SE. Drastic but what I would in your shoes as I prefer my old reliable OS.

I've been running XP for about four months now, with no problems. Everything just gave up recently. I'm tempted to go back to 98SE, but... that's like work!

Just my opinion, but never use a Micro$oft product until the first two patches come out or six months have elapsed.

As a suggestion, if you can't back out of the software change that caused the problem, try using the recovery CD that came with your system. This will restore your system to the "as new" configuration. Make sure you save anything files you want before you run it however, as some of them format the hard drive before re-installation.

I got it going again, oddly enough. I'm not quite sure what I did, but, I'm not going to screw with it now. I couldn't stand the silence. I could actually hear myself think, and all I wanted to do was eat and sleep! What's up with that!
