...for those of you that agree with me that TIE Fighter is the greatest game of all time...then this is for you. I got it (the updated Win95 version) working in Win XP. Now...on the surface that doesnt sound like a major problem...but it has compatibility issues and all in WinXP.
Ask me how to get it working. As for the Collector's CD version...i also got it working....but with no sound or joystick.

Any tricks that might be helpful for other of us trying to get older games to run on XP?
My dad likes to play Star General, but his new XP doesn't like it at all.

It's a little more of a strategic game, but you should try Sierra's Homeworld or Cataclysm. Homeworld is good, but Cataclysm is spectacularly plotted and has some excellent audio work that adds some real dimension to the game.

The Win XP Compat. Pack works pretty good.
My friend gave it to me...I dont know where he got it, but its an official MS program...should be somewhere on their site.
As for the BEST way to go about it....Vagabond isnt too far off. Make a seperate partition and install Win 98 and XP (have a dual boot). WIn98 for older stuff...XP for newer (as XP makes much better use of resources). As soon as I can find a copy of Win98 I will do this thing.

What makes TIE Fighter so good was its mood.
It put u in the pilot seat for the Imperials...showing you that they were not evil. It also protrayed the rebels as what they were...REBELS.
The best thing was the amount of missions. Over 120 missions...the game was no where easy to beat.
No game has that kind of depth to it anymore.

I`ve got the Collector`s Edition CD version, and you`re right. It`s a great game. Actually that`s the one that finally made me buy a joystick for my PC.
My kill lists were quite astronomical at the end of the game

Yup, the X-wing is surely overrated. Stupid bathtubs, they only come out there to die. Only Rebel fighters to really ruin my day were those cursed A-wings. They would fly circles around me for ever.
