How many of you feel that the THB's version of the IS Ultra and LB-X ACs should not be used?
I am asking this because it came up at recent skirmish I attented about a week ago.
One side was of the opinion that if you wanted to use them, so what, the advantages were not that different from the "current" versions so it shouldn't matter.
The other side was of the idea that if it's not in the BMR, then it's not to be used.
Seems that two of the mechs in the battle, had the UAC10 from the THB and an LB-X20 from that same book...funny part is the only major advantage I could see gained by the THB weapons was they weighed less and gain range over the current ones...but in the case of the LB-20X I would want the current version since the THB one has less range and less ammo...
And the other funny part was the side with THB weapons lost...
So what do you folks think, does it matter if these weapons are used?

I was under the impression, that most of the stuff in the tactical handbook, was no longer "legal" so to speak, with very few exceptions, which were published in other sources.
I personally wouldn't allow them to be used, and instead go by the latest edition of Master Rules. I mean they published it for a reason, and it is more current, ie published after THB.

Use 'em, call it a Level 3 design, and be done with it.

I havent noticed either I tend to staw away from the large bore Autocannons af anysort. They weight to much and dont have enough ammo.

Under the rules, MaxTech supersedes the Tactical Handbook and all other previous versions of the weapons *unless the weapon system has not been reprinted.* Therefore while you may still use the reactive armor from the Tactical Handbook, you must yield to MaxTech's description of the UAC/20.
The Tactical Handbook and Unbound have only a few unique weapons/equipment systems. Everything else has been reprinted in, and is therefore superseded by, MaxTech. Either way, it is still up to the GM to make the call. If this is a FanPro battle, then MaxTech would automatically supersede.

If by that you mean a FanPro-run tournament, odds are Level 3 technology and rules are not going to be allowed. Which would mean both books would serve no real use.

being that most of the stuff in the Handbook was suppose to be Level 3 to begin with, that would sorta mean using any of it was illegal anyways in normal play. In which case, unless you're actually playing a level 3 game, you wouldn't allow anything from it anyways.
Anywho, it still has some interesting stuff in it that isn't in Maxtech. Like the tandum & mag srm ammos. As well as actual play and contruction rules for LAMs etc.

heh...heh....
Funny you should mention the "Windows CD drink coasters". My whole life I was a Mac user. Recently, I just built a PC to use for a gaming platform (although I still use my Mac for work stuff). Now, I am going though the basket of drink coasters that we keep under our coffee table and pulling out all the windows CDs that I have been throwing in there over the years.

Macs are like Ferraris that cost a nickel and three thouasand miles to the gallon. But they only drive on five percent of the roads...
