I was just wondering what was the first mech people ever used?
I think I learned the game with a Phoenix Hawk. But the first mech I really piloted in character was a WarHammer. It was a pretty funny how I got it though. I had just finished making my character for a Solaris VII MechWarrior league at the local gaming store and all I had left to do was determine my mech. I had put a 3 into mechs, which gave me a Heavy, and I was a Davion, so got to roll on the Davion Table in the 2nd Edition Mechwarrior book for my mech. Jsut before I rolled for my mech, one of the guys who was helping me with my character said and I quote: "Watch him roll a War Hammer!" and I did. I was doing pretty well in the league to, for a novice, when I met a very unfortunate end in that game. I can't remember what kinda of mech I was facing, but I was at medium to long range and he had an AC/20, and I had moved to Partial Cover. BAD IDEA, VERY BAD and Bloody. I wa sthe first casualty for that season, when I took an AC/20 shot to the head. End of Story.

JM6-S Jagermech and DRG-1N Dragon. I can't remember what I fought, but I died hard and early.
I think that if I had actually used both 'Mechs the way they should have been instead of closing like an idiot I would have won.

Mine was one that was included in the Battledroids box set. The first mech I considered "my ride" was ASN-21 Assassin.

First mechs I ran were Marauder, Thunderbolt, Pheonix Hawk and Locust.
I lost but not because of my design choices. Back Luck and newbie lack of game knowledge.
I still like and use all four designs, espeically the Thunderbolt as it survived the match when the others went down.

Stinger baby, yeah!
And after that, the mech that would eventually become my third favorite of all time (behind the Thunderbolt and Shadow Hawk)
The Wolverine! Ta Da!

The first I ever used in the board game was the Battlemaster. I would take it against my brother (the other one, Kraken was way too young at teh time) who always piloted a Warhammer. We had misread the rules somewhere and thought that light mechs went up to 55 tons, mediums from 60 to 85, and assaults 90+ (sounds like the jump jet chart), so we both thought we had medium mechs and were evenly matched.
My first in character mech was the good old Grasshopper. It is still one of my favorites. Solid, mobile, and able to cover all ranges. It was forgiving enough to let my character survive as I learned how the game went.
The first mech I ever piloted was on the Crescent Hawk's Inception, when I took the Locust out on the training mission. I learned to fear the Urbanmech in that game, even when I had the Chameleon!

Ah the god ole days of The Crescent Hawks Inception. What a great game. Crescent Hawk's revenge was impossible though. I could never bust out Jerimah Youngblood from prison and have him survive long enough to get out of the city.

Crusader, pegged a Battlemaster with partial cover at long range with a full salvo from the LRM racks. I was hooked.

The first mech I ever used was a PHX-1 Phoenix Hawk. When my friends and I began a clan campaign, however, I used a Thor.

First mech ever was a Locust. After that I used Warhammers and Battlemasters. Usually whenever I needed a lance I used a Battlemaster, a Warhammer, and two Locusts. I slaughtered even assault lances with that mix. When you annoy the hell out of assaults by slowly chipping away their back armor (after singling out one) and then darting for cover, they get so hell bent on killing the locusts they fail to notice the three PPCs that hit them square in the back. Not many get back up again. Even if they do my Locusts get the kills next turn anyway.

Phoenix hawk, Battle Master, then Cicida. I have to many that I like now to choose one. But for Medium mechs I think a modified Lineholder and assaults a Devestator.
