BattleTech Vehicle Technical Readout

Config: V.T.O.L. Omni
Rules: Level 2, Custom design
Mass: 30 tons
Power Plant: Deve Series 70A I.C.E.

5 AT-4SR Missile Systems
1 AT-2SR Missile System
2 MN1 Machine Guns
Manufacturer: Illyusion Lines
Location: Bryant
Communications System: QDCOM x6
Targeting & Tracking System: QDVAR 88c
=Overview:=
All of Bryant was celebrating nearly five years of freedom from tyranny when they were attacked by the Cappellen Confederation. A renewed invasion of the Chaos March, equiped with new equipment, new tactics, and plenty of armor, almost overwhelmed the Russian military. Although able to repel the attack, damage was done.
Severe damage was done to many of the lines and factories that were used by the Russians to equip their armed forces, and their allies. However, they were not destroyed, and the Russian scientists and engineers worked day and night to bring them back to life. With one change.
Czar Nicholas issued General Order 1236: All new units purchased by the Russian Military must be omni-capable. To often he had witnessed during the attack useful units destroyed because they were thrown into battles they were ill-equiped to handle. This had to be changed. It was not like omnitechnology was hard to make, it just required a different chain of thought. Two senior scientists from the Wolf's Dragoons came to Bryant at Nicholas' request to retrain the technicians and engineers, and show them how to rebuild their lines. Illyusion, the least damaged of all the plants, was the first to become opperating again. The first new unit, compling with GO1236 is the LGG-6 Hornet, a heavy VTOL Omni machine.
=Capabilities:=
As an omnivehicle its primary advantage is its ability to change its weapon load as needed. However, except for the PRIME configuration, no other configurations are factory produced. This is in part due to the fact that it was rushed into production to replace losses among the helicopter units that had once roamed freely through Bryant's atmosphere. The other part was that a new attack was expected almost momentarily and the power of the LGG-6 could not be done without.
Mounting five Alexander-Tashjian 4 Short Range Missile systems, with twenty missiles per launcher, the Hornet is able to fly in quickly and pound any unit to death quickly, the missiles darting through the air to find as many weak points in the enemy unit. It also mounts a AT-2SR System which is usually always outfitted with inferno missiles. This combination of fire power makes the Hornet a terror to badly damaged mech units and even strong tank units. Usually deployed in Lance formation to make maximum use out of speed and fire power, it is expected that these new Hornet VTOLs will cause unbelievable damage to attacking forces.
As an afterthought the desingers also put on two machine guns, allowing the Hornet to attack infantry units effectively as well. This has turned the Hornet into an ideal raider. Letting it bomb a supply depot or caravan with SRMs and infernos, and then cut down any survivors with the machine guns.
=Variants:=
Other omniconfigurations being considered at this time include a gun ship mounting Autocannons and rockets, infantry support, and even heavy scout or skirmish variants.

Reminds me of my Sea Hawk VTOL. Yours is slightly slower, and has less armor but is better armed with an extra MG and more SRMs.
Good work.
P.S. Since Bryant is mostly water, you might want a Configuration with torpedo launchers. I've found that to be very efective with my Sea Hawk.

Really nice design, but not enough ammo. I'd strip out the SRM-2 for another ton of SRM-4 ammo, and use the other ton for 2 more Machine Guns, or another ton of armor.

seeing as designed this vessel, i'll respond.
the concept is/was simple.... VTOL 's as they exist in BT as simply to week to maintain long endurence operations. that why i was given the job of designing something with a quick punch and speed. it mission simple, approach at high speeds to the designated target and put 20 SRM's into it. To prevent its most assured destruction it pourposly only mounts 25 salvo's of SRM 4 ammo. You get 50 seconds of activity over target before you peal off and return to base. This saves equipment and lives.
In short endurence this VTOL can cripple or destroy most vehicles and hurt light and medium mechs, and with the luckiest shots maybe take down an assult. It serves its mission profile perfectly.... but as its an omnivehicles, ur welcome to switch stuff about as u wish.

The best use I've found for VTOLs is to loop around a mech or vehicle and pound it until it dies. I dont use VTOLS that are slower than 8/12 usually, because going max speed straight at something almost garauntees a miss from the target. Then you loop around again and again until its pasted, then dive for another target. Long life can be assured by greater speed(although I must admit, many small battles take 5 turns or less). I'd just rather have the length of stay stretched. You cant keep running back to the supply depot every other minute when a battle is under way, it screws the guys who need fast aircover when their fighters are in space.

An LB 10-X AC will ruin your day then..... it gets a bonus to its -1, i think its -3 to shoot down Aerospace fighters, Conventional fighters, and VTOL's when using cluster munition. This combined with Streak SRM's insure a short life span for any VTOL. Even speed won't save you there.
and i can see your new to the NUSSR on Bryant [local creation] who imploy a mixture of old tech and new tech on vehicles and convetional fighters. we have no mech production, we have no aerospace production, but we do have lots of infantry, tanks, and artillery.
So air cover is provided by our Conventional Fighter/Bomber who some purpose is to bust, anybody stupid enough to attack Bryant, there head open. Suplying air cover is our Conventional Fighter/Interceptor.... who can go toew to toe with most aerofighters at half the cost.
so our VTOL's provide only minor aircover, atleast this one. its duties are strike mission, get in, laydown da smack, get out.

well considering i didnt know this was designed for a specific planet with most of its defense forces already in line...I commented as if it was a general use VTOL, and as a side note, few vehicles have LB 10X-ACs.

That, Mithras, is why people use field refits.
