I wanted to get away from the "game" based scenarios that we usually run. Battletech Maximus is a hoot, but after a while it gets old. Same with my Caverns of Hell. They both stress the importance of being able to plan your own movements, and attacks.
The trick with a scenario, is that it gets difficult to design a scenario that will last about 3 hours. Casey and I used to run scenarios on Sat 7-11 that took up to 20 people and I think every single one of them ended at 11 with a winner (rumors that this happened because we wanted to go to the bar are completely true).
The other problem with a scenario, is one or two very good players, or one or two very bad players can seriously screw them up. I try very hard to design the scenario to handle this too.
I think next year, I will actually finish this damned 3D Maximus track, but beyond that who knows..

Not doing so is the biggest error any player can make.

No it's not Chihawk. Saying something like It can't get any worse... Or There's no way for him to hit me from there... is.

Actually, in the Tharkad scenario, I head capped my brother's Banshee with my Highlander's LBX20 in the last round as well.
And in the New Avalon scenario, I believe it was the Longbow that blew up rather than the Archer. Dang shot-to-hell Shadow Hawk got behind it and punched it in the back I think. Damn 3025 non-existent CASE technology.

I must say that I very much enjoyed the games I played at the con. Though it seriously pissed me off a bit in the Mosh Pit. I take ONE LOUSEY DAMN POINT into my internal structure the entire time during my first life while I was on my way out of the center and onwards to victory and it goes and ends up critting my gyro making me fall into the water. BAH! My TSM would have kicked in for next turn and I coulda made a new record for distance from the center. Heck I mighta been able to even get to the other side being that it was mostly clear in the direction I had to go. Oh well, maybe next year. At least I managed to kill a buncha people. Mordel included on the last turn from a hull breach after he was laying on the ground asleep for most of the game.
Tharkad scenario was fun too. And it was pretty cool using those big mechs in the New Avalon scenario.
And then there was my scenario that I was able to run in place of the Underground. Which was the first game I was able to run at an actual convention. It pitted a vetern mercenary unit against a regular miltia on a chaos march planet. Miltia actually had more overall firepower, but it was more upclose stuff. Mercenaries had long range and better stats. As it turned out, it was a pretty good battle, even though we ran outta time to finish it. It actually played out better than the first time I ran it, which turned out to be a complete slaughter in favor of the miltia due to bad tactics & luck of the mercs. Of course, the mercs had mostly different mechs this time due to my not having the sheets for the original ones.
I must say though, it was pretty funny to see DeadFish's untouched Imp ammo boom itself from heat on the last turn.

I do believe I still share the record for that particular feat! And that was with a random mech provided by Chihawk (his design I believe)3 years ago.

I do not think you share the record, I think you are the singular holder of it....and yes, it was a mech of my design for a completely different purpose. It was not very compatable with that scenario.
Shows what kind of player Horhiro is...

Or it shows how crappy the mech was they didn't bother with him until he got to the bottom. _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

Oh, it was a very crappy mech for the scenario, and I want to give him the benefit of the doubt

Regarding that moon game... interesting Mordel: if I won initiative, I was counting on my pulses winning the day. If I stayed at 9, I only had my large pulse at long range.
|
|
The key is you wanted to be at 10. 10 would still be range for your large pulse and nothing for me since I had only 2 SRM racks left. Moot point though, as it was a lot of fun and I did end up prevailing. No one defeats Mordel (unless I'm unconscious laying under depth 1 water for half a game). _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

I'm pretty sure he shares it, but I can't remember who he shares it with, so he might as well be the singular holder.
Damn I'm proud to be the co-designer of the unbeaten scenario.
^5 Chihawk!
