Anyone else gotten the books?
Well...I didn't get the Monster Manual yet, but I did get the PHB and the DMG (last DMG my Waldenbooks had too...at least that I saw)...
Some interesting changes were made...lots of cool new additions in many areas, some FANTASTIC artwork (love the picture of the female elf in chain mail in the DMG's magic armor section)...and, of course, some things I don't really like, but can see why they did it that way...
So, anyone else with some thoughts?

The local Waldenbooks has about 4 copies of each on the shelves. I though about shelling out the $90 for all three (especially since it's double points week!), but I'm having to watch the ol' budget so I can afford to move out and do the PhD thing in a few weeks. Are these worth buying, or should I just rely on the updated SRD? I'll try to download that in a minute (if I can get through) and see what all it does and does not contain.

No matter how good they are I will not be purchasing them...I've bought enough D&D rulebooks for a lifetime already.

They are well worth buying...
Oh, and my understanding is that Waldenbooks now gives double points whenever you buy more than $35 at a time...but I could be mistaken...

We're still using 2nd edition. Why waste perfectly good books by making them obsolete?

Because the 3rd edition, and especially the 3.5 edition, are ALOT better than the 2nd edition D&D...

I've heard that from a lot of people, and I don't care.
I've bought enough D&D stuff for my lifetime and won't be buying 3.5, nor any other edition.

You sure it hasn't already been spent on those other things?

Just goes to show you what point I got left behind.
I only went up to first ed AD&D. Still covet my original D&D stuff. My biggest problem back then was what world to spend my hard earned cash on. Greyhawk? Forgotten Realms? Dragonlance? Mystera?
How many rulebooks does one need for a ROLE-playing game anyway? Give me a good DM, exciting adventures, and tell me what dice to roll, heck if I would ever by another rulebook either.
Two of the most fun convention games I ever played in were "Champions" at a Council of V nations con, and "ShadowRun" at a con in Conn. I had no idea for either one's game/combat engines worked. I just took my Character and role played them to the best of my ability and let the others tell me what dice to roll. I couldn't believe how many D6 you have to roll in Champions...crikey!

The best part is you get to count them twice using 2 different methods...Champions is my favorite RPG.

When you play are there published heroes/villains in your games such as DC/marvel characters. Or are the all home-brewed and Champions characters?
The game I played in was kewl cause we all had home brewed characters but the game would was a combo of tons of genres. I got my ass kicked by The Batman when I tried to pull a fast one on him.

All are home-made characters.
My game world does not include any of the Marvel/DC/indy people.
