Hi. I'm currently looking for someone who knows something about computers to guide me through a problem I'm having. I can't play any games any more.
I get an error message with one that says the computer is having problems initializing hardware. Another, I'm getting some GWindow - Direct X error message.
My computer was working fine three days ago, and now, more and more problems are popping up. I've updated Direct X, I've updated all my hardware drivers, and everything says that it's all workinig when I go and run a Troubleshoot.
I'm stumped.

also is this happening with a few select games or flat out all of em?

I'm running Windows XP, Direct X 9.0, and an NVidia GeForce 2 Video card.
And, yeah. It's happening to all of the games. I mean it's not really a big deal now, as I leave again Monday morning. It's just one of those things I have to beat before I can safely leave the country again...

geforce 2 cards are directx 7 compatable, they luckily work with 8, but will crap out under 9.
i found that out myself a month ago.
need a directx 8 or 9 compatable card if your going to run directx 9.

Aha! And my wife told me not to bother upgrading my computer. This'll show her!
Thanks.
Now, is there any way to get rid of a later version of direct X, in favor of an earlier version? I can't get 9 to leave!

You would have to reinstall the OS and not put Direct X 9 on the system to get it off. Once on always one until you rebuild it.

there is a program out there designed to roll back directx. can't remember the name atm, but i'll search it up.
