Man, this movie sucked! It's one of the worst movies I've ever seen in my life... I'd place it close to "Pearl Harbor"

It's not that it's awfully bad as much as it's boring and uninspired.

Further proof that movies based off comics are never good movies.

But damn, the guionists did butcher up a very interesting premise. I was expecting at least a decent action movie.

The movie lacks any plot or story development. It just has about half a dozen scenes, and it's just a collection of old cliches from a poorly done James Bond movie and the Evil Overlord list.

#21 I will hire a talented fashion designer to create original uniforms for my Legions of Terror, as opposed to some cheap knock-offs that make them look like Nazi stormtroopers...

The bullet proof armors they wear are an actual World War I example, kinda cool. But the effect is ruined by the guns, Kalashnikovs with a metal box around it.

No cool special effects or machines, just a knock off of a Mark IV tank that it's pretty cool, but that's all. Oh yeah, and a cool car. The Nautilus sucks big time, looks like a WWII Type XXI submarine the size of an aircraft carrier and with some decor. Ah yeah, and an auxiliary scape pod that looks out of place, like being ripped off from Matrix or so.

And it's really pathetic when you see the damn thing floating in Venice channels, and going up later all the way up the Yang Tze or some other major Chinese river

And the cast... an old Sean Connery with a expression of "the things I have to do to pay the bills" in his face, a ugly vampire chick (what? Not even a hot babe at least?), a Captain Nemo that looks stupid with what looks like a huge false beard that disguises his features to the point you don't know what actor is he (and does some ludicrous kung fu stunts that are laughable ) a Doctor Jekyll/ Mister Hyde that is a cheap clone of Bruce Banner/ The Hulk, Dorian Grey that I don't know what the heck is doing a Oscar Wilde character among the classic characters of science fiction and adventure novels of the 19th century, other than they needed somebody to be the trite "traitor in the group" (there's always one , you now)

Let me think, who else... oh yeah the Invisible Man, very aptly named because you don't see the character in all the movie, just two scenes. The special effects are cool, though.

Ah, and I forgot, some dork that was one of the hobbits in The Lord of the Rings , I think it was Merry, (somebody oughta tell all those actors that played hobbits to quit while they are still ahead and don't ruin any more movies with their ugly faces and lack of talent) that plays an American secret agent, a cross of cowboy with typical brainless american teenager. I didn't hear the name (who cares anyway?) of the character and wasn't listening, I supposed it was the token young character for teenagers to identify with or the like.

Well, when I get to the credits, turns out that this guy was supposed to be Tom Sawyer. Yeah, Mark Twain's character. Go figure.

The Evil Overlord is supposed to be Professor Moriarty, but since you only see a couple times, the actor is nondescript, and he's ingloriously shot in the back after a poor brawl scene with Sean Connery, it's as boring and grey as the rest of the movie.

Oh yeah, the photography sucks, the scenes are so dark you can't see a damn thing, and
the action scenes are done so fast that all you get from staring at the screen is dizziness.

Utter crap. Utterly boring crap. Depressing to see all screenwriters in Hollywood nowadays are a bunch of morons.

Well I guess I will save my money after reading that less than stellar review.

Worst part of it, it's that I had heard from a friend of a friend that it wasn't good... when I'll learn to listen ? Though I did avoid watching Matrix 2.

Seriously, the only good thing I drew from this evening was seeing the trailers of "Master and Commander" (based on Patrick O'Bryan novels) and "The Last Samurai", those certainly look like a "must see".

Alan Moore's comic was a quality work, not that I'd expect any less from him. Too sad the film production doesn't do it justice. Subtle gets my money, but it's not popular right now. Like Mina Murray (Harker) in the comic, she's not identified as a vampire at any point. She's just cool and collected, and a bit too strong for a Victorian woman. And even Hyde does as she politely suggests. Subtle, yes?

As for Tom Sawyer, he's the True American Hero who's supposed to make the US market interested in the film. Film makers really think like this, as witnessed in that sham submarine movie where brave US sailors capture the German Enigma code machine. (Before they even entered the war, and despite the fact the Enigma was really captured by British forces...) A film about English poufs won't sell enough tickets in the US, where much of the money lies.

BTW, anyone who can find it: read Alan Moore's Watchmen.

Now theres a good comic I'm a huge fan of Alan Moore, and if I'm not mistaken wasn't he also the one who realized the Batman and Superman probly wouldn't get along and so did a series of comics depicting their fight?

Batman vs Superman? Sorry, that's Frank Miller. "The Dark Knight Returns" is certainly one of the best comics I've read, but then again: that's what you should expect from Frank Miller.

Any opinions on Neil Gaiman's production? I've got the Black Orchid album lying right on top of The Dark Knight Returns, you see...
