You have only read little bit about the game and the Clans trys to correct my gameplay
Here's the set-up
My recon unit ran across a IS front action unit of heavy mechs, Now being a clan unit of a Hunchback IIC ,two Jenner IIC 4's, Mercury, and Vixen II, I wasn't to worried, There's now way a sphereiod in a heavy is going to hit my unit. (Unless we stand still, And we never stand still)
Now, The IS unit had a lance of Salamander, Hatamoto-Hi, Awesome, and a Striker. And they where ordered to encounter the enemy and track them untill reenforcements arrived.
Now, being a usual newbie, He thought it was going to be a simple little battle, and saw no reason to track us. And gave the order to attack
It wasn't long before he learned that it was a big mistake. after his third mech fell. and he was the only one left standing. He started to quote the rules of Zellbrigen. And how I was breaking every one of them (Which I was to be honest). And just before my Hunchback blew out what was left of his CT. I told him "Welcome to the Iota Galaxy"
Of course after the game he was mad and wanted a ruleing that I broke the rules of Roleplaying, and should not be awarded the points for the game.
Now, I am the loremaster of the game. so it fell on my second to respond. who simple said "I saw no honor in that battle" and awarded me extra credit for playing my unit so well
GOD IT GOOD to be back
BTW: he still does not know what happened

All part of the game, I was assigned to them, And I get points but playing how they battle, And I use points to get promotions, to get out from there, Into a diffrent more honorable Galaxy.
But your right, They are pretty bad

While it may be funny, it's not really fair, is it? My expertise in fighting clanners isn't that wide, but I think your opponent had too little stuff to have a chance. I'd want a medium IS company to feel there's even a chance of winning against a star of light clan mechs.
Don't laugh at people for underestimating something they've never seen in action. We need more newbies joining BattleTech.
Crying about honor rules won't help, though. You would have destroyed him in duels too, only it'd been a bit slower.

I'm assuming that the unit he is using regularly disreguard Zellbrigen.. but I may be wrong. but if I'm right what he did was perfectly fair and true to the Btech world.

I wasn't talking about fair to the world, just fair in a scenario. That would have been a very uneven fight with zellbrigen too.
IMO someone who gets to lead an assault lance should get a "spot-the-obvious" roll if he doesn't know it's almost certain suicide to attack.

6 lights vs 4 assults.
thats only slightly unfair with equaly skilled players. they may have spd and firer power but assults have thick skin and more weapons to hit with.
but then thats if there using Zelbring.
12 mediums vs 6 lights is not fair.
thou 8 mediums vs 6 lights is better.
atleast IMHO.
i agree with whats his name. spot the obviouse roll.

It was 4 lights, and a medium. against a 4 Heavys.
And I had a Hunchback IIC. lots of fire power at short range. But little armor and speed.
The point is. He should have bothered to look at the unit history before running in and quoteing Zellbringen. We get points for playing the units we are assigned to as they are protraied in the book. all he had to do was look in the book.
He disobeyed his prime orders because he saw a a star of medium and light mechs. and thought he could use the Zell against me and get some easy and quick kills.
And just because Btech needs new players. does not mean we should handle them with knit gloves.

Aye, that's what I been thinking. If you disobey orders, bad things happen. Always good to learn.
It might have been helpful to have a spot-the-obvious roll though. At least the roll itself would give him some idea that he was about to REALLY, REALLY screw up. Not that I hope he hasn't already learned.

No need to use silk gloves. It would probably feel even worse to be defeated by someone who doesn't use all his firepower.
I just don't think it's fair to laugh at someone who makes two newbie mistakes at the same time. He should have realized that clan mechs with clanner pilots are a lot more dangerous than their IS counterparts. The unit history would have told him you run a nasty sort of unit. Unless the player RPs a character who suffers from megalomania (or is too stupid to command assault mechs) he really should have been made aware of those things. What sort of unit sends out people without any info on the opposition?

That is the point, He had all the info he needed, The galaxy who is stationed at the planet, The cluster who operated in the grid he was to patrol, And the recon (The only recon in the whole unit) he would most likely be up against. He just thought if he played the game lawyer angle by useing the Zell. He could win. I even warned him not to go throught with it ( And lost 5 points for warning another player out of character) All that info. and he still went on the attack
And I might say that even though it was clan vs IS tech, It still was not an easy battle. Some of those mechs had long reaching punchs and thick hides. My Jenner was almost taken out of the fight. So the guy had some skill.

You did more than necessary if it cost you points to warn the guy. It's his superior's fault if he didn't make sure the man knew what he was doing.
Skill or not, I surely wouldn't attack a clan recon star with that assault lance. You'd need to work very hard in order to corner those fast recon machines while avoiding a head-on slugfest with the Hunchback. I'd be more worried the clan player wants to get some glory by attacking me

How very Iota of you.
To be insulting to a Wolf player recently I trounced him with an equal BV of force from 'Greed, Envy, Lust and Pride'... All that infantry made for a long game, but I did prevail using nothing but Solahma Infantry and Elementals against a medium frontline star.
Sometimes the wackiest units are the most fun. Steiner 8's, 2nd Oriente... there is an appeal there, no? _________________ Happyness is just a word to me

Yes, It was. It is bad when the book itself says (and I quote) "Iota never uses zellbrigen"
Just wait till I upgrade to a medium star that is under my command.
Then I am going to get out of this galaxy before it gets me killed
