Well, I just got back from seeing this film...if you like vampires or werewolves, and especially if you like the White Wolf games, go see this film...vampires and werewolves in a centuries long war, now fighting with guns...got to love it...besides, the star looks HOT in that tight leather...

Of course, I can also see why White Wolf is suing Sony over it...

The bastards released the movie??

I'm not watching it, I'm not supporting a rip off of the games I love, and I hope White Wolf sucks Sony dry.

LOL!! That is to funny! It was like all of the people whining over the Disneys Treasure planet. (great movie IMHO). Saying that it ripped off a old video game (the name excapes me atm) only to have it opinted out that the inspiration for the game came from a novel written some 15-20 years eariler.

As for the movie its self /shrug. It dosent look that interesting to begin with so Ill try to cath it when it comes out in video, but if I miss it entirely I wont lose any sleep.

Vampire, the only similarities to the World of Darkness is that vampires and werewolves are at war...

Other than that, there is no real comparison...the wolves weren't really wolves per se, the vampires didn't have as many clans as in White Wolf games (there actually seemed to only be 2 "clans", or covens as they were called in the movie, a European one and an American one), etc.

White Wolf will be bled dry if they try and continue this pointless lawsuit...it's like Lucas trying to sue over Battlestar Galactica being too close to Star Wars...

Besides, I'm sure you'd enjoy the lead vampire, and her nice tight leather outfit...

Like Ruger pointed out the only simlarity to White Wolf's world of Darkness is the fact the Werewolves and Vampires are at war. I am not sure the Vampire conven's can be classified as Europeand and American, the whole movei takes place in Europe, and it doesn't seem like the other coven comes from America.

***** Spoiler below *****

The story begind the movei is completely different form White Wolf. Lycans and Vampires are genetic mutations resulting form one man's immunity to some virus back in the 5th Century, which wiped out his entire village. The Lycan's were the day time gaurdioans of the Vampires once. And most importantly they could interbreed, I presume because they are still essentially human, even if they are immortal and have supernatural abilities.

So really there is no similarity between White Wolf's game and the movie. As for other law suites against them, I don't know the details or stories in question. So I have no comment, other then 'big freakin deal. Stop your whinning already" Nuff said!!!

Overall I thought the movie was great. Excellent well thought out story, definite sequel potenial to finish the story, which I am loking forward to, lots of unanswered questions in my mind. Kate Beckensale is EXTREMELY HOT, not to mention the fact that she did an outstanding job as Celine.

Movie is a damn rip off of WW. Granted, some of the points of WW lawsuit are silly, but then, when you make a lawsuit you have to use all the ammunition you have.

WW didn't invent vampires, or werewolves, but they were the first to portray werevolves as something different than a mindless beast, and to mix them with vampires.

Underworld is a rip off, just changed enough to dodge plagiarism accusations, but if you believe the scriptwriters came up with the idea for the movie entirely on their own, I have desert land in Iraq to sell.

Listen to what fellow fans that have seen it say
(I'm not going to see it because just by reading the plot summary it's enough for me to decide it sucks)

"It's a bad movie in practically all respects. The screen writer has played WoD too little or too much, the director is worthless, and the characters are pathetic."

....

"It seems to me that they have picked a mixer and blended together Matrix, Blade, Interview with the Vampire and a little from Bram Stoker's Dracula while in their minds jingled the word " money...money...money"

note: the movie has about one third of the budget of other action and special effect movies like Matrix, X Men or Blade, so you know what to expect

No sex scenes. Why there are so many vampiressess and not a single she werewolf?

Kate Beckinsale, it's the girl from Pearl Harbor, she's cute, but to look good in tight black latex you need to have more curves , seen from the front she's as flat as a wall.

Summing it up , this movie ranges from the mediocre to the truly horrible, don't waste money on it, unless you are an American with no taste, like Ruger and Alex

It's depressing. America invented the cinema. 90% of the great movies from all time are from Hollywood... I don't know if today moviegoers have no taste because they are fed crap, or Hollywood feeds them crap because they know they have no taste.

It's really puzzling considering that in order to make a profit, Hollywood has to sell its films in the abroad market. US sales are not enough.

And contrary to what Ruger says, for the good of your sanity, you are forbidden to see this movie if you are a White Wolf fan

( Ruger, that was a blashpemy, if you were a real fan you wouldn't say that, lawsuit aside)

Well... guess we will have to wait for Master and Commander, The Last Samurai and of course, Return of the King

My bet is the the first one will be ok, second can either be wonderful or dismal, and the third... it better get the Oscar this time

I could counter each and every point here with facts or opinions that are the exact opposite of what you said Vampire, but what would be the point?

It all comes down to the fact that I have first hand knowledge of the film, and you looking at it through biased second hand eyes...I'd give credit to your opinion only AFTER you saw the movie for yourself...

I've seen a dozen opinions in message boards from acquaintances of diverse ages and backgrounds that usually can't agree on wether it's daylight or not, that have seen the movie. The agreement was general , the movie sucked. If it doesn't pass the freak test, it isn't worth watching.

The f*!k I'm going to see it, I already did the costly mistake of seeing the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and I'm very pleased that I have managed to avoid Matrix 2, and 28 Days Later, and every superhero flick

You don't need to see a movie to know it's going to be bad, often there are enough telltale clues that say it. Opinion from somebody that has seen it is good for confirmation purposes.

If you liked it, all the better for you, but don't try to sell it to me.

Hey Vampire,

I was talking to a prof in the Fine Arts department here at NU and he said the reason that the second Lord of the Rings film didn't get an Oscar, though the first one did, was for two reasons 1) it was a bridging film. I.e. Move characters from point A to point B. Those usually don't get Oscars. and 2) Politics. LotR:RotK will SWEEP the oscars, and the first one didn't do that shabby. Give some room for others to make a name Smile the judges already knew they were going to get some, so saw no reason to overload them.

I'd say that matches with what i've seen of the Oscars.

Sorry to go off topic, just something I thought I'd share.

Raven!

While I don't remember the Special Effects for Blade very well. The Matrix had some great special effects with "Bullet Time," but there was nothing new in Matrix Reloaded or X-Men 2. But I must say the Special Effects for Underworld were pretty sweet, especially the morphing. Nothing in X-Men or Blade touch them. But then again I am just an AMERICAN, and PROUD OF IT BROTHA!!!!
