I have been living off of stocks of stored food lately my pay has been very late because the guy I have been working for rehabing houses is having problems closing on a house because the buyer is having trouble with his lender so i have over a thousand dollars coming but I have not been paid in over a month (hopefuly the house will be closed this week and I will get paid).
But right now that is not why I am making this thread I opened a box of Uncle Bens Country Inn Broccli Rice Au Gratin inside I found a coupon it expired December 31,1991 Should I eat this?

Eating it would be a religious experience, I bet , yummm! 
Not to scare you, but old cans are dangerous... they can develop botulism toxin, one of the deadliest poisons now. I would use it as bait for rats

So what if it is old. So are you.......IF ( Notice I said IF) you haven't gone 'bad' ( snicker,snicker...) Why would you think it has? 'sides rice can last for decades, ask any chinese.

Hmm, if it was just the COUPON then you could be ok. Maybe it was just a mixup and they threw the old coupon in side the box... HOWEVER, if it wasn't the coupon, then I don't know. I don't know the life expectincy of rice. I'll call my mom and ask her.
Raven, off to call home for the first time in two weeks!

Dry goods keep fine provided mold, or moisture do not get them. If neither is the case, bon apetit. I would make sure it was well, cooked tho' that will kill almost everything that might get you.
Botulism is the bogey man of canned goods, if the food inside is discolored, or there is a hole in the can, toss it. (I toss it if there is a lot of rust too, micropunctures you know. That is why most people avoid bent cans in the market unles they are going to cook it tonight)
I grew up on a farm and Mom was a canner and food storer type. It was a matter of comm9n sense for us to tell if a can did not "Take" and had to be tossed.

I just checked with my dad.
If it's whole grain rice, then it's lost about a third of its nutritional value. If it's instant, then it's little more than bulk. In either case, it's still edible.

My mom just whipped out a book which says that at best flavored rice can only go about six months in an airtight container and still be good. So I don't know now.

Well the Rice and seasonings are packed in separate pouches paper over plastic over aluminium foil If that helps
