I do believe I am simply going to wait for the Director's cut DVD's from now on.

There were at least 4 scenes added that make the story MUCH more understandable for someone who did not read the books.

Several lose ends get well tied up too. I now know who won the Orc Killing contest between Gimli and Legolas, Faromir's motivations for releasing Frodo and Samwise are cleared up. Arwen and Aragorn's little tragedy is better explained. There are also several charachter interactions that were left in in this version, and some scenes lasted a bit longer.

WORTH IT.

I like getting the first release as well, simply to contrast the two...

I refer to the extended version as the "double super-geek version".

Now I need to find the time to watch it.

That's a dangerous proposition. I don't think most directors give the "director's cut" of a movie the attention that Peter Jackson gave LOTR. In some cases the movie can turn out to be worse, as is (I have heard) the case with The Exorcist.

The Two Towers as it was released in the theatres is just an action movie put on top of the Fellowship. The Special Edition turns it in to the true story that it is.

It is a must, geeky as some say it is.

I would go so far as to say it is better than the Fellowship.

My only complaint was, it should have never been removed from the theatrical release to begine with.

Most people won't sit through a 3:44 film.....

Not so sure about that. There have been longer movies than LoTR that have released in the theaters.

Im just at the point where I want to see a good well thought out story. I would rather sit thorough a longer movie and be entertained then be irritated by a incomplete story..

true, I am willing to sit for as long as it takes. I would put an upper limit at 3hrs tho' gotta allow diabetics to get thier food before they keel over . a 3 hour date, ot 3 hour hike/outing are not that uncommon, are they?

Longer than 3 hours, then it is trilogy worthy. Can you imagine Ulysses done properly? CGI for the magic effects and monsters? I think that would be the best way to do it literature preserved the classics with the printing press. The computer with film could really bring them to life.

Wasn't ulysses supposedly returning from Troy? Maybe that could be the next epic to be done. The kids can get a grip on history and such from parents who get brain forming movies rather than slushies like terminator. Althought they are good too.

IT would have to be good, though. The kids now-a-days would tear a cheesy movie to pieces....

I agree. My main point is that a good story should fit in a time frame that neither drags, nor detracts from the story for being too short. A good story would have good internal consistancy.

Dune, and the cartoon version of LOTR are prime examples.

The LOTR cartoon? Are you serious? Or is it just too long since you last watched it? It's a prime example of total failure!

so is dune. LoTR toon required you to read the book, or have a D&D background to even have a chance of following the plot.

Both movies were hacked to impossibility due to being fitted into a format. A story should be told in the time it takes to tell it well, not in some artificially imposed time limit. I am just saying that an upper limit of 3 hours is better than an absolute limit of 1.5 hours.

The SciFI channel Dune series is a far better treatment than Hollywood.
