Well, we too pay our price in the war against terror.
At least these men were killed doing their duty and not murdered by lack of caution like the Italian carabinieri

It is with great sadness that I recieve this news as Spain is one of the few Western European nations who have helped us.outside of Britain, Italy and Spain the Western Europeans have been a great dissapointment. It has been Eastern Europe that has stepped up, something we will remember. My prayers go out to the familys of those brave and honorable men .

It seems any foreigner is a potential target there. Two Japanese diplomats were killed in an ambush near Tikrit yesterday.

I do think it too bad that there seems to be so many people out there that are willing to leave the Iraqi people to the biggest bully that can step forward.
Yes, I know that to some people that big Bully is us, but if the terrorists are now targetting the average Iraqi citizen, then what does that say? To me it says that perhaps they are losing their grip on the populace, and the generic person may not hate us nearly as badly as they once did.
As much as I hate school, the only real way to dig some of these folks out of the mud is to educate them...

The only small relief in this tragedy is that the agents could fight back instead of being murdered defenseless.
They fought for half an hour with pistols against assault rifles until they ran out of ammunition. I'm sure they took down some of the terrorists.
They were ambushed by Saddam's thugs because they were searching for mass graves of the Shias murdered by the dictatorship, in order to remind the Shia population of why we are there and keep their support.
I have no doubt that the traitors that gave the information for the ambush will be caught. Sooner or later.
In a year from now, as things change in Iraq and the Middle East, we will see why the sacrifice of the US and coalition troops was worthwile.

I am glad that some other countries share the USA point of view. Turkey tried to stradle the fence and is paying a price. Sometimes you have to accept some pain to win a fight once and for all, instead of living in fear. It looks like Spain understands that. The USA leaders seem to understand that, it does not look like the press wants to.
I think France and Germany did not learn a thing from WW2 and are playing appeasement again. Then again what choice do they have, their armies have not won a war since WW1, that was 80 years ago. They are verbally attacking us, but are still meeting their treaty obligations, much like Turkey. We'll see what happens, I would not be surprised if CentCom pulls the Germany divisions out at German request after an attack in Germany. It could go they other way tho' DSG9 are some competant folks, if Germant decides to use them.

Change that from foreigner to anybody and I'll agree with you. Most of the people getting killed in the war in Iraq are Iraqis....hmm, no wonder they're not too keen on the USA at the moment.

A year from now? I'd say that's a rather optimistic time frame. I'd like nothing better than to see this conflict resolved quickly, but I don't think the conditions in Iraq really favor the peaceful establishment of new institutions in such a short time. Sure, the US will probably have "officially" turned over governance of the country to some sort of puppet regime by that time, but that's all it's going to be, and the Iraqi people are going to know it, and chances are they're not going to show any loyalty to a regime where the US government is pulling the strings. Remember, these people have been conditioned all of their lives to believe that the USA is the enemy...they're not about to start loving Americans overnight, especially not after America invades their country, destroying enough of their infrastructure in the process to effectlively knock Iraq back to the year 1700.

What little infrastructure damage we did we're fixing and then some; much of the rest was done through negligence and lack of maintenance. Pop on www.snopes.com and take a look around through the Rumors of War section and others; you'll see a few letters from those who are really over there who say that we're going full-bore in fixing the damage, so much that things are better now than they were before.
The US military has a habit of taking what places we go into and making them better than they were before the fighting.

Most of the damage is from the 1991 war, isn't it? They still have a point, the coalition destroyed the stuff back then and UN sanctions made buying spare parts illegal. As well as placing restrictions on medical products. Saddam, of course, could tell people which evil country wanted them to die from lack of clean water and medicines...

| They too kill a lot of Iraqi which cooperate with the US and their allies, but nobody cares enough about them to count their bodies
I sayed from the start that this occupation of the Iraq was a fault and that i fear it will get as nasty as the conflict in Northern Ireland or Kosovo

When I was in I always tried to make a difference for the better. The politicians, media and savages of the world don't cooperate too well tho'
I remember pictures of several house in Mog that looked like US homes from the outside, but once you got inside.....
One house had all the appliances ripped out of the kitchen and a hole punched into the roof for a make shift chimney. The firepit was built where the center island used to be. The back bedroom of the same house was used as a general refuse and sewage non-treatment center.
It comes down to the fact that you cannot help people who don't want help, or don't want YOUR help because of cultural issues.
The latin Illegals and other people who come here are either looking for mooching off the american welfare system, or have given up trying to fix their own country.
That is some of the problem in these places where the terrorists are at. They are frustrated of being unable to get rid of the dictators because of the interference of wrong informed, good hearted first and second world nations who are supporting these people.
It is going to get worse, as the HAVE NOTS have figured out a form of warfare that will get the HAVEs attention. Hijack a plane or raise a car bomb guidance system in a special school. The have nots are not to worried about loosing their lives, because it is a release from grinding misery. They cannot fix the misery because the problems have access to unreachable supporters.
The only thing any country can do is try to let these folks solve their own issues without help or hinderance. As long as there are no 911's car bombs in Madrid, Paris, Berlin or Moscow, let them be. Give them the freedom(total freedom) to learn on their own.
Sooner or later most humans leave the home and either learn to take care of themselves or drink sand and eat rocks until they learn.
Let the younger countries learn in the same way, no more foreign aid that makes dictators rich to buy weapons to oppress his people. No more food aid to allow an overpopulated area to continue to remain dependant on who ever controls food shipments. No more imposing morals on backward regions that are still in the tribal war stages. let them reach their own solutions intead of constantly imposing our currently unworkable morals on people still living in medievil times.
