i'm the CO in Kyu Kages On-Line game. I lead the Attack Lance. Well heres my problem, i have got to select an ASSULT mech below 1800 bv with a 3/3 pilot and no slower then 4/6.
i narrowed it down to:
Sundar O
Thug 11E
Hatamoto-Mizo
I like the weapons capacity and armor on the Sundar PLUS its an Omni, but dislike its XL Engine.
I like the Thugs use of mostly old tech and twin PPCs but dislike its lack of close-up energy weapons and its waist of DHS.
I like the Hatamoto-Mizos old tech, twin PPCs, and its DC, but dislike its general lack of weapons [19tons only] and heat.
All the other configs on the Hatamoto-Chi don't move me to much. at this weight i want to fire my primary weapons repeatidly.
so any suggestions? ideas? opinions?

Well, if you really have to pick one of those three choices...
The Sunder is a brawler. Use the other machines in your command for the long-range work, let the Sunder go close and personal. The XL engine is a problem though.
Second pick is the Hatamoto-Mizo. It's incredibly tough, it will cause a lot of hurt at range and you can always go physical. A bit anemic compared to the Hatamoto-Chi that I prefer.
The Thug, while unfamiliar to me, looks the best of the three. It is the Hatamoto-Chi on steroids! PPCs and SRM-6 launchers! Oh boy! Take it, you can do everything with it!
And the final question: What's wrong with an Awesome 9M? Or a Zeus 9S? Or a Battlemaster?

Third vote for Thug. They are what their name suggestes, brawlers that just kick up a storm ; move in a medium speed, soften them up with PPCs, and then physcially beat the crap out of them and launch SRMS to find holes.
Hatamoto looks cool and is OK, but Thug is an original and works.
AWAD- Won best player at a convention with a Thug, did not kill a thing with it, but wounded many and screwed up their attack plan.

Yet another one for the Thug. What a machine. The sidetorso DHS are rather useful as crit soakers.
The Hatamoto is VERY similar to it, although it lacks a fist. Some campaigns consider it an Omni, if yours does, it'd be a better pick.

The Awesome is only a 3-5 mech? Unless that was changed also in 3050ish?
Of the choices you offered I like the Hatamato Mizo.
The advantage it has over the Thug is that without the Missle weapons, it should never fear heating up. It cannot have an ammo explosion, and can fire 2 PPCs and 1 Large Laser whenever it needs to. 14 is your first heat worry, and 18 is your next heat worry.
I've seen a couple folks mention that a mech has a hand actuator and therefore is a better brawler... Earlier in the game life, a question was asked if a mech that starts life without a hand actuator has to pay the penalties of missing that actuator, and the answer given was 'no'. Only those actuators that are destroyed are penalized. Did they change that rule on me?

The 3050 Awesome used an XL engine to move 4/6...

The Sunder is quite a brute, but that XL means you'll have to play hide and seek once you get hit a few times. If you like playing odds, go with the Sunder, but the Thug is a safer pick and will likely carry you farther. It's just as the name suggests, a tough brawler that just runs headlong into the fight.

I like the Thug too...I wouldn't run headlong into a fight with one though...you'll live longer. With two PPCs, you don't have to charge in...stand back and snipe 'em till they fall down.

I like the twin PPCs of the Thug. I'm not a fan of Assaults, Couldn't you find a heavy to do the job?

Well since I am also in the game Vagabond is playing (and in his lance driving a MAD-3D) I also have to say.
Go with the Thug.

I am also in the Attack Lance [in a MAD-5D, which I would love to get out of, but can't find a suitable replacement for], I would also go with the Thug or the Hatamoto, as there is little difference between the two.

My choice would be the hatamoto, or thug too. The clans respect the Thug, it ewas the ride of one of their Ilkhns if I recall. After the Jaguars got Smoked, Respect was built for the Hatamoto, too. Both mechs have the same basic armament, so you could go for the cheaper one.
The 2 PPC combo is a popular one for a reason. Heck first chance you get, salvage a couple of clan PPC's and you have a surprise for any other opponents. Since the clan models are lighter, you could add in a couple of Mlas.... or more armor......well you get the idea.

Take the Thug, it is a cockroach. Low tech, easier to maintain in the field and the only drawback to the mech is ammo for the SRMs. And that is compensated for my crit seeking on your target mechs.
All of these are good mechs for the BV, but follow the KISS rule.
