Gentlemen (no insult intended to any who do not qualify),

I've reached a point where Dog Hair Terrain can actually start selling terrain on ebay. I've neversold anything this way before, and have never bought anything this way either, barring a Goliath I snagged on Gamer's Union.

Naturally, I am turning to my friends here for advice. What should I do? What have you seen that works and hasn't? What would y'all like to see?

Any information at all will be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Storm

Good, clear pictures will be a must.

Describe your item a thoroughly as possible without boring the potential bidder.

Set up a PayPal account to take credit cards, and figure the % they will charge you and build that cost into you starting bid.

Only ship stuff insured. Indicate this in your description.

Chihawk hit the hight points.

Clear pictures are a must, note that there really needs to be more than one for what you will be selling.

The Paypal is really a must today as well, you will have a higher success rate with it.

Don't skimp on the text, and above all things format it so it is readable.

Be clear on your shipping charges and options. Package stuff very well and you will have return buyers.

Good pictures. . . .

Good descriptions . . . .

I like the idea of insured shipping and the paypal cost being counted into the price. I hadn't thought of that.

My standard policy (for any terrain I sell) is that the buyer pays shipping. I will ship it however they want, even next-day air, as long as I am paid for it.

For custom orders, I generally take payment in advance, since part of the money goes to getting the supplies I need. This means I have to keep a lower inventory, which means less clutter, which means a happier wife, which is always a good thing to promote peace and harmony in one's home.

Thanks for the advice, Chihawk.

Rather than pay the extra cost to post my pictures on e-bay, I would like to have a link directing people to additional pictures on my website.

Do you happen to know how e-bay feels about this?

You don't need to use eBay pic hosting service at all, they offer it to those that don't have webspace. If you have your own web space (which you do) simply host the pics yourself.

Just remember that lots of people are on dial-up connections...keep the pics of modest size so they'll load fast.

There are specific rules for pre-paid custom stuff sold on eBay I believe...you may wish to take a gander to see what you need to do to comply with those rules.

Chihawk,

I was actually just going to sell items on ebay in a general auction, but I do custom work as well. For example, I may get an urge to build some MWDA terrain and sell that on a general auction, or you may get an urge to buy a CBT Commo bunker, and have me build it for you.

In that case, the commo bunker would be prepaid, and ebay wouldn't enter in the the equation.

I actually have a "how to order" page on my site but I haven't quite uploaded all the pages and pictures yet, so that part is still unavailable. It's one of my weekend projects.

Thanks again for all the advice.

Storm

Emphasize good packaging...and good quality in general; you will have more than enough problems to have to worry about customers complaining about damaged product.

Y'know, I always pack things safely. In fact, for local customers, I usually deliver them in person. I never thought to emphasize it.

Thanks Mud!

Not to worry! With Christmas and all, it's not a problem.

Thanks.

I used to work for a used bookseller who sold a lot of things online, and he always emphaized this to me...come to think of it, we never did have any complaints about packaging, which was good, because there were problems with just about everything else.

Delivery Confirmation! Always get that so you know if it was delivered and you can track it!

Accepting Overseas bidders is also a good idea. Alot of EBay sellers shy away from it, but I have had great luck with it. Plus you can get a reputation as a overseas seller and it will attract more customers.

I know this may sould silly, but be "human and happy" with your description. Show the potential customer you want to sell to them and make it a successful sale.

my EBay Seller ID is highball32 if you want to see what I mean.

Delivery confirmation is useless. It only shows that it was delivered to the zip code that is on the package, not that it was actually received.
