I seem to be a little wordy lately, but here is another topic.
Are there existing rules for active volcanoes in the BT universe? I have a rough draft for a scenario that takes place on a volcanic island with an active volcano, but before I go too much further I wanted to see if someone has already done the work. I was think of random lava flows with heat increases when traveling near\through the lava. It would make an interesting tactical challenge. Could you imagine a Firestarter on this island? Everything on fire, heat to the max, mechs blowing like roman candles.

you can try checking the MaxTech Rule book. There might be something in there. I'm pretty sure it has lava rules in there at least.

Nasty nasty nasty magma!
Out of MaxTech page 8/9:
Magma:
Magma forms a solid crust than can support the weight of battlemechs, however infantry and wheeled vehicles cannot tolerate the intense heat and cannot enter such terrain.
anytime a unit enters a crust hex the controlling player will roll a D6, a six rolled means the unit has fallen thru the crust. All units falling thru, EXCEPT battlemechs, are destroyed. Battlemechs take 2D6 to each exposed location when entering magma. Legs usually, all locations if the mech falls. (that is 2D6 to EACH arm/leg etc. location!)
A mech in a crust hex generates +5 heat per turn, +10 heat if in magma. 2 heat to move thru a crust hex and 5 heat to move thru a magma hex.
a crust hex costs 1 mp/ pilot roll +1, a magma hex costs 2 mp/ pilot roll +4
I would seriously avoid these hexes! The math comes out very bad if you end up in the 'soup'.
I get visions of a mech slowly crumbling apart like the T2 in terminator.

That would work with what I was planning. I was going to draw the map so that it had permanent lava flows drawn on the map. A die roll at the start of the game would show which flow was active if any. The rest of the flows would just be hardened lava and treated as rough ground or rubble. So basically, turn one the top of the volcano would have lava, turn two the lava would move to the next 2 hexs down the flow, etc. so by the 6-7 turn the flow would connect the top to the ocean. So mechs trapped on the wrong side of the flow would either have to walk through the flow using those rules you just posted (so I don;t have to redo math already established) or else walk all the way around the mountain or walk out through the deep ocean. Mechs caught in the hex when the flo first enters it have an automatic pilot roll and take the damage set up in the rules. Another fun side note. If the lava flow enters a grove of trees, they catch fire using the existing rules for smoke, fire spread and so on.
So anyone want to fight in Hawaii?

Would you continue to roll the die for the direction of the lava flow down hill?

Lave sounds like a good reason to use medium mechs with jump jets. You're pretty desperate if you actually feel like going through lava on the ground. Desperate like some mercenaries cornered by Jade Falcons or other hard-line clanner fanatics? Certain death if you stay to fight, almost certain death if the lava field can't be jumped over...

If I remember right Jamie Wolf got caught in lava fighting on Quentin with his Archer...wasn't pretty.

Aff, if memory serves, it was Minobu Tetsuhura that rescued him, assuming his karmic debt at the same time. Wolves on the Border is one of my favorite Battletech books, because of this relationship that Wolf and Tetsuhura shared, and the tragedy that resulted.

Resulted in the Ryuken? I would not call that a tragedy. Not for the Snakes at least.

No, the shootout on Misery, and Wolf having to help Tetsuhura with seppuku. The Ryuken is a good thing for the Dragon, and the personal war between the Wolves and the Dragon was good for Davion during the 4th War, but all told it is a classic tragedy.

You know, I always kind of wondered where Kurita, a perenially resource poor Successor State, got the necessary equipment to outfit five brand new battlemech regiments? Raising even one regiment constitutes an exceptional feat, even for the richer houses like Steiner or Marik. I seriously doubt Kurita could have come up with over five hundred extra battlemechs at the drop of a hat.

And how did the CC suddenly be reborn? How did Marik got all the high tech cool shit? How did Davion bypass the Comstar interdiction, with a handful of black boxes?
Just accept it. It is or was called FASA Economics and Technology.

Yeah. How DID the Dragoons ever get rebuilt after their n:th disintegration in battle? Wolf seems to pull battlemechs out of some extra-dimensional storehouse. Not to mention the unit's claim of "clan origins" when 95% of the original personnel have been killed in battle at least twice! FASA, we love your retconning of the universe.

To save on the continual die rolling I was just going to use pre-drawn flows. Just look at Hawaii, most of the lava flows travel approximately the same path each time. I just like the idea of making the players deal with environmental concerns that change each round. Besides, what better carnage can you get than missisles firing, laser whizzing and half the island on fire?
