As many people know, the Clans declared a Trial of Annihilation against Clan Wolverine. Some factions of the Not-named-clan survived, and escaped to the Inner Sphere. The Minnesota Tribe was, almost beyond a shadow of a doubt, a faction of the Not-named-clan. According to ComStar, they tracked the Minnesota Tribe to an area near the Outworlds Alliance, where the trail disappeared. Did the tribe continue into the Deep Periphery? Or did they find a spot, hole up, and let the searchers blow past? And what could they be up to, assuming they still exist?

They're holding off the evil alien hordes that are trying to invade the Inner Sphere. Why the aliens don't just go around them, I don't know, but it's nice that it give the Wolvies something to do.

Why not? It would serve the clans right for forgetting a possible threat. The Bad Guy allways does that right? An Uber nasty Wolverine Horde descends on the Pentagon Clans and wipe them out except for some remnants of the Star Adders. Thes remnants arrive a few months ahead of the Wolverines and warn the 'Sphere of the threat. The Ghost Bears and Wolves, seeing red, go charging out to destroy the 'abomination'.
This weakens them enough that WOB is able to finish them, but at cost of their grip on Sphere politics. This allows a return to CBT, the form of the game we all know and love.

They are something that some of the folks at FASA wished had not been written into the game...given that every time this get's asked the stupid comment made by if I my memory is correct Bryan Nustal about them fighting off the alien invaders comes up...
Many folks have either done something with them or left them as a mystery of the BT universe.
Best guess is what works for your group and what they want.
Too bad that this topic always seems to fall prey to folks trying to be funny or offering the BS that came from the former Line Devolper of FASA and BT. I wonder why we can never have a simple and fun discussion about the NNC without all the rehash of Bryan's not so nice nor bright comment coming up.
