first off FEEDBACK!
guys, i could really use some feedback on this...
first off, its the people/masses buying this...
2ndly, it would my make me feel really nummy...
first credit goes out to PhoenixFire at MekTek.net...
he's volunteered to help out with CGIing the Recarast...
so far he's whipped up a quick draft. in a couple days it'll look much better and i'll post pictures then.
FEEDBACK IS VERY IMPORTANT!
if it all goes well, they should all be a 3-step process
from me, to CGIer to Matt when he sculpts it...
many of you know Matt from his Black Angel so you already know the kind of quality to expect.
We are still in the draft stage and negotiating as well. Will give more details about company, cost etc... later as i actually get some solid info.
(minis looking to get made are Cricket, Ballista, Seraphim LAM, Recarast and Crossfire - oddly the minis with the warmest reception )
The Recarast

tell me what's wrong, what's right and what i need to work on.

I think this is GREAT! Idea, Are you going to open up the calendars for fan submission? The best 2 make it on to the calendar and are eventually made into minis? Or am I off base here (that wouldnt be a big surprise )
As for the initial pictures so far they look good.

These designs to look somewhat better than the crud from the last three or four technical readouts.

yeah stinger. you're quite off base here...
the Calendar is finished and is selling already, this is work to get the minis made...
Mud, i wouldn't call the crap. Matt plog is one of my idols... he can draw very very well...
kinda like a lofty goal of mine to draw like that... but thank you anyways
go to www.battletechuniverse.org to purchase your calendars...
there are posters available too...
and i can promise you, the finished designs look quite a bit better than these sketches you see here.
sir henry can vouch for that (i hope)
btw, how are the posters working out? and where are they hanging?

Hehe And actually that was supposed to be more of a suggestion than assuming what you were doing.
I would love to see a contest where the winners get in your calendar and then have the minis made for them.

Hey Culverin, The Cricket looks a little Top-right Heavy.
You might want to shift the torso into a slight forward lean or adjust the legs into a shoulder width stance with one foot half way ahead of the other.
The Recarast, the Radar Dome needs to be moved a little up and to the left. It looks a little back heavy for standing upright. SHift the dome and it should stand ok.
You could do the same as the Cricket, with the lean or legs...

hmmm.... i will have to work on the cricket quite a bit more...
but i think i fixed the Recarast last night from other people who pointed out the radar thing.
detailed shot from the left side...
showing the "head/cowl" thing... and how it fits in...
also shows the hip assembly from the side. this was insanely hard to put together. everything had to "fit" my original pic, while still looking good...

detailed shot of gun from the left side with a correctly proportioned front panel
http://www.mektek.net/forums/uploads/post-29-1075230790.jpg
rear shot.
it shows the radar array connection arm, and it's socket...
as well as show's some more details for the back...

Hip Assembly...
this too was fairly difficult, but not so much aesthetically, but mechanics.
how would i make it all fit and still have enough bulk to support the weight of a 100 tonner...
i had to add "flanges" for more gyro/actuator stuff. its like a human hip...

KEEP THE FEEDBACK FLOWING!
