Energy: PPC best long-range weapon available at level one...and not bad at levels two or three either. The Medium Laser is a close second here, for its efficiency.
Ballistic: AC/20 sure, its heavy, does not carry much ammo, and the range sucks...but none of that matters when I rip your legs off!
Missile: Streak SRM-6. I like standard SRMs as well. Good damage, consistant spread, and good for inflicting critical hits.
Artillery: Arrow IV & TAG BOOM! you're dead. If I have air superiority, I prefer to mount them on my fighters

For which tech base?
I'll assume you expect IS.
Ballistic: Gauss Rifle
Missiles: They suck, I prefer not to have them. If I have to choose, then either a LRM/20 with artemis or Streak-6.

O.K.Clan weapons
Energy :ER Small laser
Ballistic:Class 20 ultra AC/LMGs
Missile;LRM 5
Tactics: constant High speed movement
Phisical:avoided
The Class 20 ultra is used on large units the LMGs on lights.every thing except the Ultra AC is used in large numbers.

Tactic- maneuver- even in 3/5 mech

Energy: Clan Medium Pulse
Ballistic: LB 10-X w/ at least one ton AP, and one ton Cluster
Missile: Streak SRM-4 - good reasoning Mordel, took me about 5 design tests to learn this one.
Physical: Hatchet+Punch with TSM on all torso mounted weapon mech.
Tactical: Good manuvering - if you outsmart and outmaneuver an enemy, you will win.

According to the rules you cannot put AP rounds into an LB-X AC. They are for standard AC's only.

Seems to me that fav ballistic is AC's, mostly LB 10-X, as for missiles looks like Streak SRMs, normally in a 4 pack, or normal SRMs
