Has anyone noticed how the pulse laser has been portrayed in different ways?
First up, MW3 shows it as a continuous stream of energy (which would be unlikely, because a continuous beam would cause huge amounts of heat (not to mention damage)
MCG shows them as normal lasers with a faster rate of fire, bit basic
MW4 Shows them as an energy machine gun but fires in bursts not a continuous machine gun style.
I cant remember how MC2 portrays them, anyone help here?
The battletech Compendium explains them as energy machine guns. which helps explain the -2 modifier.
I have noticed the books tend to skip descriptions of them, unlike the vivid descriptions of PPCs ACs and Missiles. They tend to just say, fired pulse lasers!.
So MW4 seems about the closest, but how do you all imagine them? And what about X-pulse lasers? Because the games just say a faster firing Pulse laser, but how can it? In that view i would see them more like the MW3 ones.
Any ideas?

Actually the MG like description is the correct one. And several of the novels depict them as "stuttering pulses" so yeah they do describe em

I would imagine that it's the same. I don't recall every reading any of the books mentioning X-pulse lasers...

In the computer games, I actually like the MW3 way of depicting them. Of course MW3 was the best of the mechwarrior series.

Me either, I don't think any of them do, but then I may be wrong. Still, they should be a bunch of small short pulses.

The only detailed description of them in the novels (Kerensky Trilogy, book 2 IIRC) says they are more or less laser machine guns. The description in the sourcebooks is similar.
X-pulse lasers are merely pulse lasers that are more powerful and heat intensive.

Funny, because the games tend to have different ideas about the pulse lasers. However, the energy machine gun sounds the best, also would make with some fun strobe effects across a battlefield. But how come pulse lasers do not get a hit bonus against infantry? Or am i mistaken?
