How many people find themselves debating LOS during games, particularly at long range? I often find that the LOS rules cannot provide a solution which is not susceptable to debate in a situation where a ruling to one side or the other could provide tactical advantage.

Ummm...I've found that most rules can be subject to debate if it tactically affects one side or the other.
You hear a lot of, "...but I've always done it this way..." or "...we usually ignore that..."
When it's all said and done it's up to the person running the combat to decide whether or not LOS is a factor... and when in doubt...quote the rules. If there's not one person acting as the Gm then use common sense without trying to prove the possibilities of physics. True...A tree out in a field may affect your LOS but come one it's only A tree not a small wooded lot.
I will look at the path of sight and if most of a hex is considered a block to LOS then there is a block to LOS if most of the hex is not a a block to LOS then there is no block to LOS.
Only exception I have is hidden units. _________________ If ignorance is bliss, then why are you so miserable?

You don't have an option that says, I follow the BTech rules..
They are pretty clear.. if a hex interferes with a straight line drawn between the centers of the target and firing hex, that hex is considered in the line of sight...
Doesn't say most of the hex.. says if it touches.
I use a string..

Raven kicks down the door. "I choose beating Vagabond with a rubber chicken!" So saying, he whips out an ACME Ultra Rubber Chicken 20, guaranteed to bring delight and humor with every beating!

It happens, but we can usually come to an agreement on it. Hey, if I get a +1 then so does the target mech for hitting me! One guy likes to set woods on fire if he can't shoot anything, so the LOS discussions soon get to be pointless.

Yeah, we seldom have issues determining LOS, and if we do we tell the decenter to look in the rulebook.

We use the rulebook and a laser pointer. That usually takes care of any problems.

I like setting woods on fire, but it has nothing to do with not shooting anything

To me is a "drama" sometimes.
Just I'm to lazy and I don't like waste time
about,so usually I go with the flow,trying
maybe a better position or situation.
There are some drawback in a 2d map,
but enjoing play Bt could also bear the fact.
Just during a game I was disappoited
cause I start to discuss about vehicle.
Should they be treted as a lvl1 mechs?
I found that a nnsense.
Or in a nearby woods and you are targeted
by a unit in a lvl 2 or more.
the rule are clear,but incomplete.
Anyway after all this time i trust in a
common sense given by experience .
For finish I start to built a 3d maps
(I got 4 maps in terms of ex) spending
some money in trees and enjoing create
template and hills with styrfoam.

I love 3D maps! I always want to do what Horhiro does. He simply cust the styrofoam into hexes and glues the cutout of the map onto the syrofoam. This gives the elevation changes and makes it easier for determining LOS. Plus it looks cool.

SInce I have recently started playing with different people in my area I have found that if the rules int he book are not specific and there is a debate, then a simple coin flip or die roll can determine which side wins. Either that or you can always just threaten to take your map and mechs and go home.
For the vertical line of sight I like the chart in the tactical handbook. It has gotten us out of a few arguements. Espcially those one where you are on a level three and they are on level zero about 15 hexes away with a hill somewhere in the middle. If you can draw it out on that graph it shows who can see what.
If worst comes to worst, and the agreement comes out the advantage of the opponent, then remember this: it is only an advantage that one round. After that round is over you can use that same rules desicion to your advantage during the rest of the game. These things are two way streets.
