With advent of higher technologies and the recovery of long lost systems a new
sport is finding its way to the broadcast schedules of Solaris Broadcasting.
Termed Pod Racing by its fans do to the pod like nature of its hover craft
Formula X is the recent fade of the high speed racing world. Drivers from all
over the Inner Sphere are flocking to the new sport to test there abilities in
one of five classes: Experimental, Advanced, High End, Low End, and Light
Weight. 

The Experimental Class are the high rollers with big sponsors, like Ceres
Metals, who field the most technically advanced pieces of equipment. Often,
these pieces are specially designed by the companies for this racing unit.
These Vehicles can cost up to one million and mass up to two tons. "They are
the most technical devices to ever bless the land," one designer commented.

The Advanced Class is also a big sponsor's class but unlike the Experimental
Class there are limits to what the designers can equip and what weight the
vehicles must be. These Vehicles must weight near one ton and must equip an
engine no better then an Extra Light. The cost usually is around 300 thousand
per pod.

The High End Class is mostly prolific in Lyran space and is further limited
then the Advanced Class. Using Light Fusion Engines and weighing in at about
one and half tons these racers cost upwards of 300 thousand to build.

The Low End Class is the start of the small sponsor seams and can be found on
most large worlds. Using Fusion Engines and weighing in at about two tons
these racers cost upwards of 300 thousand to build. Even thou the cost is
similar to the more advanced classes the larger availability of key components
means even small time corporations can field a vehicle in a race.

The Light Weight Class is the most prolific class in the Inner Sphere. It is
not class the light weight do to the vehicles mass but do to it less technical

==Overview:==
As with many military technical advancements, they eventually find there way
into the public arena and end up in the hands of inventive and odd groups; one
of these groups is the entertainment industry who is constantly looking for
new and exciting prospects to generate business, and another group are thrill
seekers who look for anything that will cause even a seconds worth of
adrenaline rush. These two groups often cross paths, and when they do often
the sport of the decade is created.

==Capabilities:==
With advent of higher technologies and the recovery of long lost systems a new
sport is finding its way to the broadcast schedules of Solaris Broadcasting.
Termed Pod Racing by its fans do to the pod like nature of its hover craft
Formula X is the recent fade of the high speed racing world. Drivers from all
over the Inner Sphere are flocking to the new sport to test there abilities in
one of five classes: Experimental, Advanced, High End, Low End, and Light
Weight. 

The Experimental Class are the high rollers with big sponsors, like Ceres
Metals, who field the most technically advanced pieces of equipment. Often,
these pieces are specially designed by the companies for this racing unit.
These Vehicles can cost up to one million and mass up to two tons. "They are
the most technical devices to ever bless the land," one designer commented.

The Advanced Class is also a big sponsor's class but unlike the Experimental
Class there are limits to what the designers can equip and what weight the
vehicles must be. These Vehicles must weight near one ton and must equip an
engine no better then an Extra Light. The cost usually is around 300 thousand
per pod.

The High End Class is mostly prolific in Lyran space and is further limited
then the Advanced Class. Using Light Fusion Engines and weighing in at about
one and half tons these racers cost upwards of 300 thousand to build.

The Low End Class is the start of the small sponsor seams and can be found on
most large worlds. Using Fusion Engines and weighing in at about two tons
these racers cost upwards of 300 thousand to build. Even thou the cost is
similar to the more advanced classes the larger availability of key components
means even small time corporations can field a vehicle in a race.

The Light Weight Class is the most prolific class in the Inner Sphere. It is
not class the light weight do to the vehicles mass but do to it less technical
components. These units use top of the line ICE engines to power there
vehicles and achieve amazing speeds. This class was the origin of the Formula
X racing community and will remain a loved portion of the sport. This class
can be found on all but the most back water world and even then illegal races
on half of them. 

The one thing all of these vehicles have in common is speed, pure
unadulterated speed. In fact on the high end cars the drivers become less of
driver and more of a pilot. He wears a pressure suit and uses several of the
same instrumentation that aerospace pilots use. All the vehicles, except the
illegal racing ones, use a specially designed cockpit that helps to improve
survivability incase of high speed accidents. However, this precaution has not
kept dozens of drivers from loosing there lives in accidents and has spurred
many debates on if this sport should continue. Nonetheless, the sport is
thriving in several parts of the Inner Sphere and rumors tell that several of
the Clans have also picked up the sport but for what reasons are unknown.

Interesting little toys I wonder if the fastest ones might have problems with the shock wave as the exceed the speed of sound and might have problems with compressibility.

Mach 1 = 1193.256 kph

1193.256 kph = 114.736 hexes per turn or 115 hexes per turn round up.

I think I may write up some racing rules. It looks like .38 is the optimal speed for the expermental racer. With the speed curve and the charger it could be interestign to see 10 to 12 of these racing along.

So I will submit my race team and ride.

I see races happening on lakes or plaines. Or both. Nice wide open straight-a-ways, and to really test thedrives some areas that REQUIRE you to slow down and Pilot. I would guess that at the speeds these things are capable of turning may be a little tricky with drifting.

Drift table.

Speed in hexes.
25 Hexes = 1 Hexes of Drift
50 Hexes = 2 Hexes of Drift
75 Hexes = 3 Hexes of Drift
100-115 Hexes = 4 Hexes of Drift
116-125 Hexes = 7 Hexes of Drift
125-150 Hexes = 10 Hexes of Drift
151+ Hexes of Drift = 15 Hexes of Drift


Much like drift in modern race cars the Hover craft is no exception, When the hover craft reaches higher speeds it becomes harder to steer as forward momentum builds, and much like fighters it is possible for the control surfaces to become compressed requiring more fort to change direction.

To ensure pilot saftey one team has taken a look at an old hydroplane technology for the cockpit. The break away cockpit has saved the pilot a few times and appears to be appearing the norm. The one problem is the high speed of the hovercraft, a crash can be violent and if it happens near a tree line the cockpit may strike a tree still killing or seriously injuring the driver.

Something like this mabey.

The cost to train pilots for these make it very unlikely that they would get used for suicide missions. Especially when slowing it down and and adding a drone unit will produce the same result.
