Ok, here's one for you guys. The original Cataphract vs. the original Battlemaster.

The CTF-1X should be the original Cataphract, yes. PPC, AC/10 and some medium lasers.
The Battlemaster will have to work in order to prevail. It does have the armor to close in, but this will be a costly battle. The Cataphract may well inflict a good deal of damage before the BLR can bring all of it's short range guns to bear. Still, I think the CTF will lose most of the time. The Battlemaster is simply too tough.

Did that verison CTF-1X, have jump jets?
If so then it may have the edge. If not, then the Battlemaster closes and relies on 4ML and an SRM6 + fists to do some damage.
AWAD- nothing to really add at this time

I don't remember if it got JJ,anyway
I'm always appreciate this design(I remember
in a old compendium there's a battle scene
where is rappresented while shooting
in water)
Comparing with a BLR I think should
be hard to survive, depend by wich terrain
they clash and if I got JJ..

Interesting match up.... wasn't the Cataphract a House Liao heavy mech design that was based off of the Marauder? If I remember correctly, FedCom took over the planet in the Fourth Succession War. A decent design with ranged punch, but the BattleMaster, a time tested mech, can absorb the punishment and close in to deal fatal damage with its medium ranged weapons.
In a series of games, I think the BattleMaster will come out victorious more often that the Cataphract.

you guys are really dismissing the advantage the Cataphract has with it's AC/10. That will neutralize the Battlemaster's advantage in armor. In close, the BM has the edge only with the SRM-6, and even at point-blank range the AC/10 has no penalty.

I think it will depend on who's playing aginst who.. the Cataphract's better at range and the BM really needs to get close (preferably point blank).

Precisely; the Cataphract can strip the Battlemaster's armor at long range with the PPC and AC/10.
Incidently, the same trick works with the Marauder.

Is it just me, or do all BLR models have long-range capabilities, either in the form of a single PPC or several LRM launchers?
Since we're talking about the original Battlemaster here, our long-reaching punch would consist of a single PPC, but... so does the long-reach punch of the Cataphract. So, the Cataphract pilot would be hard-pressed by the fact he must both keep close enough to have his AC10 neutralize the Batlemasters long-range advatage(with similar offensive capabilities, the one more heavily armored is the victor - the BLR).
However, as the Cataphract is forced into pushing forward to enforce medium range engagement of the BLR, it must also keep in mind that at close range, the BLR's superior firepower, armor and tonage will give it a certain advatage. So, locked at keeping distance in the optimum of 9-15 or something, the Cataphract will be hard pressed indeed. Especialy considering that the speed factor of both 'Mechs is equal.
I'll bet my money on the BLR. _________________ ...in darkness I was walking,
