If you were to design an assault lance what would you include?
Here's the scenario:
year: 3060
4-mech Assault lance
Faction: Word of Blake, FWL, or Steiner
Assume the unit is experienced, thus having access to newer 'mechs/tech.
I'd love to see your responses.

What do you want this assault lance to do? Long range bombardment? Close in slugfests? A balanced mixture? This affects the selection of the designs.

Have a couple in mind, such as:
Fafnir 5B
Banshee 7S
Hauptman OC
Awesome 9Q
but then again...what's the mission? Is the lance "purely" assault? or can you mix one or two heavy/medium mechs?

Hmm...Steiner Assault Lance:
BattleMaster-4S
Highlander-734
Banshee-7S
Zeus-9T
It gives hurt at range and only gets worse the closer you get...and not an XL in the bunch...light engines, yes...but no XL's...

Butt-kicking slugfest is what I had in mind: the kind of unit that has a reputation for getting in close and nasty, wrath-of-god/avatars-of-death sort of thing.
You know, bad dudes to monkey with.
The setting is urban, if that helps at all.

Okay. . . . . .
BattleMaster-4S
Highlander-734
Banshee-7S
Zeus-9T
I can work with that. I wanted to see 4 of the biggest, baddest boys on the field. I have something nasty in mind. Like I told Ronin, too, the setting is urban (light industry/factories, stores, skyscrapers and suchlike)

For Urban I would take an Annihilator, Sunder SD1-OC, An Atlas and maybe a highlander or Zeus. I know an Annihilator isn't one of the faction mechs but i like the big goon. Otherwise i would take a Stalker of some kind

If that's the case....4 x Highlander-734's...4 ER Large Lasers for any distance shots, with 4 LB-20X's, 8 Streak-6's, 8 ER Medium Lasers and 4 Medium Pulse Lasers with max armor for the size, 3/5/3 movement, and near perfect heat dissipation for the short range stuff (only movement heat)...that's 60 points of damage each at short to mid-range if everything hits...

If you shoot like I do, anything hitting would be a miracle and a half.

Honestly hadn't considered the Haupt, but I think it's a good idea.
