I've always played Btech that way.

You know my opinion. Simultaneous is simultaneous. Just because you resolved them in a certain order doesn't mean it's any less simultaneous. The arm should still be there. The ARM IS still there. This won't affect the way I play nor the way my games and conventions are run.

Who is this Randall guy?
That particular 'ruling' doesn't make alot of sense, and doesn't seem to follow the rules as written.

All the damage happens simultaniously, period. The arm is still technically in the same place during torso destruction so it is still a viable target during the damage phase that round. So all four AC/20's did the damage at the same time. While the two were destroying the torso one was also, at the same time, hitting the arm.

Well....ok, no.
This is just another case where the ruling may be correct but it certainly doesn't match the way the game should be played...and another check in the "redesign the rules column".

I agree, we've always played that the arm is there during that "phase" making it a valid target to absorb damage during that phase. It has always been that weapon's fire is simultanious. Obviously the arm will not be there for the Physical attack phase. Perhaps players were confused between "phase" and "turn", and that's why they used the term "immediately falls off"?
Regardless, Randall will have to reverse his decision on this one, I would think he is presently getting a lot of flak for it.
As Mordel, I will still play the way we have been.

I haven't checked CBT, but I don't expect there to be a huge uproar about this.

As I was thinking, I started considering a critical hit on the arm with a result of 12.
I've seen criticals played two ways:
1) People roll criticals as they are rolled for example. I hit the RA with 2 medium lasers. The first goes internal by 1 pip. I roll a crit, and roll a 12 (arm gone). Now the second medium laser comes along and hits the RA. However, because the crit was rolled, the arm is no longer there so it hits the RT.
2) All damage is rolled then crits. So the arm is still there for the 2nd ML, resulting in 2 possible crit checks.
In everyones opinion which method is correct? I use method 2 as I feel it is accurate. Sometimes for sake of sanity (when I get hit with LB-20x or something, I'll roll crits as I get them), but I still feel damage should be applied as per method 2.

According to Randall's ruling.
Although fire is supposed to be simultaneous, I have always given damage transfer rules precedence.

I use method 1. I think you are taking the application of "simultaneous" to an extreme. Of course not every shot will be made at the exact same time. Their has always been an underlying assumption in my games that the order in which a player calls their shots is the order in which the made their shots. Plus I don't know any players who like to see their shots get wasted.

Yeah, the same guy who gave us the now infamous ruling about search-lights on vehicles, mixed ammo on vehicles, and now this one. That's three strikes; he's outta there. You'd think the line developer would at least be required to be aware of the rules of the game.
