I think you can use vehicles to catch your opponent off guard with relative ease. For the sake of argument, 90% of all Battletech players consider mechs to be the main threats. They almost completely discount some of the things that armor can do, that mechs cant. Heck, theres even a tank (the Kanga I think it is) thats jump capable!!
Case in point:
During one game, I dropped a star of medium omnis and a star of elementals behind the tank lance of my opponent. I (erroneously) figured that they would be more than capable of handling a lance of heavy armor. I completely spaced off the fact that, unlike mechs, armor can turret twist in 360 degrees. Can you say 'crossfire' ? I lost two mechs and 7 elementals in that debacle when my opponent cut loose with his first salvoes from the tanks.

Yes, i used that tactic once to outwit an opponent, thinkingh he was clever he trotted up behind my custom 80ton tank with his light mech and caused superficial damage. Then he had to deal with a UAC 20 and several medium pulse lasers and a SSRM6, all turret mounted!
Think he was kicking himself.

I am always greatly amused when I see several guys hunched over a table in fancy renaissance garb arguing over a blueprint of the Enterprise. (yet another geek realm that seems to fall in line with SCA members.)
There are actually 3 people in our shire that play BT, only 2 of us that still play though. The third guy used to play but he "grew up". (his words)
