I know this question sounds silly and probably is, but let me try it out.
How many Locusts do you think it would take to bring down an Awesome?

1 to 4 depending on pilot skill and player skill.

With a little luck it only takes one. With equal luck involved and normal die rolls it should take 3-4 Locusts. WIth the PPCs on the Awesome at least 1 of the Locusts will die before they are in range. Once closed then the 2-3 left will have to keep the Awesome busy while they try to pick away at the back armor.

I can take down an Atlas with 4 Locusts so I'd say 3 to take down an Awesome.

Kurita Pilot: One
Liao Pilot: Two (one need to be behind as to be able to shoot it in the back)
Marik: Unknown, they are too busy fighting amonst themselves.
Davion: a few hundred plus infantry and tanks. Hey we're talking about Davion, they don't use less than a RCT for anything!
Steiner: 10-15, plus they would bribe the Awesome pilot to take a dive.

Agreed with one condition:
We all understand that if a Kurita Awsome and a Davion Locust go head to head the Locust could do it with one hand tied behind his back (because he has all the infantry to keep that overly sanctimonious, insufferably honorable Snake busy).
And seriously: depending on the terrain, 1-4. In open terrain with some decent places to hide between shots a locust could have the Awsome pilot so tied up in knots he wouldn't know which way was up.

Yep, real men drive Locusts. Real Warriors are from the Combine, thus you got it right, One Locust piloted by a Kurita piolt would take an Awesome.

I think three could do it with a good chance of success. They'd take some casualties, but they could pull it off.
What about Savannah Masters?

I would have to go with 6 to 8 Savannah Masters since one hit and Kaboom...no more Savannah Master. 6 to 8 would account for casualties and yet have enough to blast away at the Awesome's armor.
Imagine the radio chatter of the Savannah pilots...
Option A.) EEEEEEEEHHHAAAAAAA!!!!!!!
Option B.) Stay on target...STAY ON TARGET....Almost there..... (à la Star Wars run on DeathStar)

With kamikaze pilots the S. Master swarm can do that with even less. Check the speed of those little buggers and then do the math for charging. It does not take many to leg an assault.

I have taken down an Atlas with one Savannah Master. Friend of mine was walking along a cliff at the edge of a spaceport. I was straffing him at max speed but I came from the wrong side and had to turn but failed my piloting roll and skidded into him. I made impaact and he failed a piloting role and fell off the cliff. He fell four levels and was killed by damage. It was hilarious to say the least and I still remind him of that encounter to this day.
btw...I died also in the collision as I had taken damage from his LRM-20.
