I must be feeling particularly devilish today, but I got to thinking a raging forest inferno would be an interesting scenario for a battle. Maybe start with the heavy forest map, set about a quarter of it ablaze at the beginning of the scenario, and give at least one side lots of flamers and inferno missiles and bombs. How much does it really take to cook a 'mech, anyway?

As I see it, the situation would dictate extremely close combat. Vehicles and infantry would be extremely vulnerable, but infantry would remain useful, so long as they managed somehow to avoid becoming BBQ.

You probably need to include rules for trees burning down...

maybe...each turn is only a few seconds though. It takes hours for a forest fire to burn itself out. Eventually though hexes set to fire would deteoriate into rough ground.

in the 2 minutes of combat that BT exists in on average, you are no were near worried about how much longer a tree will burn.

which on a side note, clearifies for me why ICE units do not have any fuel listings. that is purely a campaign and off board worry. even the longest game of BT i played [turn wise] never exceded 10 minutes combat time.

An enemy of mine once tried to use a heavily fire/smoke covered board to his advantage by hiding and trying to lure in my forces. I just kept clearing the wood hexes from heavy to light to rough, thereby putting the fires out. Call me Smokey the bear.

yup.

One of these days I will actually get that set down. Maybe that could be my project for Aug. I am sure that Seraph would love to work on that one. Nothing like fir everywhere to make the battle interesting.

Didnt Comstar use a forest fire trick during the Battle of Tukayyid? Against the Steel Vipers or something?

Have it in a forest; say a new volcano is coming up. Then you've got both lava hexes and lots of tinder, spreading fire all over the board

I was planning the assault of Hawaii. Huge volcano, lots of light and heavy woods (palm trees), several little villages. Most of the island would be flammable. Could you imaging pushing something like a P-hawk into a flowing lava stream? or getting trapped between 2 forest fires and see the lava flow coming towards your mech? Wee!!!
