I think thats the whole idea. They can make the graphics so damn amazing because you cant see half of whats going on, thus saving wear and tear on video cards that arent quite ballsy enough to run the game.

Eh..not quite. Just because it isnt lit doesnt mean it wont be lit in a second of flickering, or all of a sudden lights come on. it still has to be rendered.
its dark cause they want to create the really freaking eerie as hell experience...and it does it. Nothing to do with hardware.

Well, After playing for this game on Ultra High mode at my buddies place. My friends learned two things. Ha'ans can't be scared, and that Iron Stomache Ha'ans who can eat a full meal and ride any amusement ride in the park, gets motion sickness on a 30 odd inch screen with the details that cranked.
I will thus retire from playing that game until my buddies consent to let me play on a normal computer screen... because vomit is no fun at all.
The game was worth playing even with the fact it cost me a lunch. *shrugs* Life goes on

The only game to ever make me sick was called "Chaser" and it came out earlier this year I believe.
I got sick within 5 minutes of playing it...if it was from poor engine design, odd lighting, or the game just sucked that bad, I dont know...

Doom3 seems cool, its too bad it keeps crashing on my computer (I am way above min reqs). I think it needs to be a little more stable.

I am on a Dell with 2.66 GHz P4, 512 mb RAM, more Gigs in HD than is needed, with a 128 mb ATI Radeon 9800. I have the latest drivers.
I am running D3 with medium quality at 800x600. It should not crash, but every now and then, like when it has to load a new level, the game just turns off and exits.

Thanks for the tip. Personally I do not like the idea of installing something that is descirbed using the words "beta" and "driver" on my system. I guess I will have to be content with playing D3 in 10 minute segments until the drivers are officially released.

I have a radeon 9600 too, kept locking up on the intro movie till I got the update for the driver.
Its been a pretty nice game, much in the doom mold. But I have come to find it annoying the way monsters keep on showing up right behind me in a place I just cleared out. It is the contrived ambush and the game is overdoing this trick. _________________ "Those who beat their guns into plows will plow for those with guns..." -Thomas Jefferson

I hear there is a way to save your system settings on XP so that a system restoration can be done if things go wrong. Does anyone here know how to do that?
Have you had any problems with other applications using those drivers?

Start-All programs-Accessories-System tools-System restore.

Just bought the game today and having played it I too get problems in hi res mode. I am running a Custom machine. Thermaltake case with 8 cooling fans radeon 9800pro Athlon 2.8 and 1 gig matched memory mine gets jerky on 640 res. I will try the new drivers and see how that goes. Also bought a game called chaos league. It is a blast basically very similar to Games workshops bloodbowl good for a good hour or so anger therapy treatment beating up some poor elves with an american football _________________ "Thats the fastest race ever ran.
