I was going to add that because of the problems with the Weber flamers they went with the standard and reliable Zippo flamers.
Or we could have the flamers crap out on a roll of double 1s kind of like the Ultra AutoCannons. It would add to the fun of playing this mech. I do like the mention of special foam to keep the flamers from damaging the mech in case of burnout.

I'd go for them sticking with their own design. licensing the Zippo flamers or purchasing them costs money. Money they have spent on designing their own models.
Maybe for fluff we can add that while their flamers might self ignite, they are more effective in some way. (longer range, higher damage, lower heat, etc etc..) _________________ "My job is to keep the majority of people in this country alive. That's it. Licenses cost money but theft is free. Until you get caught, at least.
It wouldn't be the first time a company lifted a good solution from someone else's product.
Besides, burning down forests, houses and stuff is also expensive over time. Perhaps they managed to improve the Weber flamers by changing only one or two parts? Unfortunately a large stockpile of unmodified Webers were stolen and still turn up on the market once in a while.

The improved design probably involves the addition of the special canister of foam added by cain.
Which is still bad.. cause when the lamer fails, the foam is released and you're out a flamer for the rest of the battle..

Yeah, but you look like a rabid mech with foam frothing up all over your mech. _________________ If ignorance is bliss, then why are you so miserable?

I like that idea. If playing a battle as part of a Mechwarrior RPG game then you could get deductions to the enemies morale. Nothing scarier to infantry than seeing a huge fireball engulf a mechs arm then seeing it walk out of the smoke unharmed and foaming at the mouth.

I could see a mech like the Atlas foaming at the mouth anyway. There are other candidates.

I don't it matters to infantry.. a mechs a mech..
unless they're hardened Grey Death legion elite anti-battlemech infantry who think Ramage is a god. (he isn't??)

Fluff first draft
The little known Weber Corporation moved to the design of battlemechs after one of its subsidiaries struck a lode of germanium that produced a small but constant trickle of the valuable mineral.
Hiring designers either fresh out of technical universities or plain-out-of-luck, Weber embarked on a crash mech design programme that resulted in a prototype mech designated Type A.
Weber had barely finished installation of the its self designed flamers on Type A before it was sent for trials. Unfortunately (or perhaps by good fortune) faulty wiring caused the flamers to explode when the reator was turned on for the test. The resulting fire caused half of the manufacturing complex to burn to the ground. When the rescue operation starting digging through the wreckage of the collapsed building they found the mech intact with only minor damage to the arm and a few scratched and burn marks in the paint. Thus the name Grillmaster was born. In fact the footage of the fire and rescue dig are still used in the sales package.
In a bid to save esculating costs, Weber fixed the wiring problem as best it could and installed foam dispensers to protect the mech.'
(In an RPG, the Weber flamers crap crap out on a roll of double 1s. Quite spectacular as the flamers are doused in foam just before reaching critical mass.)
p.s. could someone write up capabilities and deployment? I'll start on the contributors list _________________ "My job is to keep the majority of people in this country alive. That's it. I will let someone else do that work, but I would suggest something about it being ignored by most major houses, but is deployed in several merc units and periphery worlds who look at the fairly low cost as an asset. Or should we send this thing to Liao?

I like the Weber flamer idea; we'll say it's a cheap knockoff of the Zippo. When if fails though, it should set the hex the 'mech is on fire. The foam protects the 'mech from the effects of the extra heat for two rounds, enough time to get the 'mech out of the fire.
Oh yeah, and the foam was chemically engineered to taste like barbeque sauce

To me, this 'mech has Ceres Metals written all over it. It's a kind of heavy Vindicator. The Capellans are using it to replace more traditional heavies and assaults, such as Warhammers or T-bolts, in much the same way as Kurita uses the Dragon. Production of the 'mech remains low however and the quality of many of the components are shoddy, because the Liao engineers responsible for converting an assembly line for the 'mech did a botched job, and ended up disconnecting a bunch of ancient jury-rigged equipment, which could not then be reassembled. (not that it would have mattered, as the plant burned down only a couple of weeks later after the disastrous flamer tests.
Once you get that contributors list together, I'll work out the rest of the fluff and submit the 'mech into the TRO.
Here's what I've cooked up for weapons placement, armor placement, etc.

I thought we were putting both flamers in the left arm?
