I have run into a little difficulty with MW2: Mercs and was hoping that someone remember how to fix it. Here is some background...
I was feeling nostalgic this weekend and decided to load my MW2: Mercs back on my 98 system. I had not played this game in years, but remembered that it quite good for its time. Everything loaded fine, except as soon as you begin a mission (Outreach and DropShip activities are fine) my system freezes. After uninstalling and reinstalling 3 times, I gave up. Searching for a patch of any sorts for Mercs has also been futile as no seems to have it anymore.
So, here are my three questions:
1.) Does anyone remember this happening to them?
2.) Do you remember how to fix this problem (Troubleshooting is useless)?
and 3.) Does anyone know where I can still find patches?

That takes care of the patches. Can't really help with getting it to run, but try searching for gaming forums. There's always some guru who knows these things.

Thanks Nightmare. Unfortunately, when you try to download, a "page no longer exists" comes up. Arrgh! I also tried Activision's site, but they only carry patches for the latest games.
I will definitely follow your advice and try finding a guru out there to assist with the system freeze issue.

Ach, they were apparently no longer on the Avault site. In the past these guys kept all patches they had on their own server. Time to find a new last resort site.

Thanks Star Raven!! Now I can try to install Mercs again. Hopefully this will solve some of the issues I experienced earlier this week. ( I can almost taste it!!! 
Next problem is the system freeze...

Well a big THX!! to everyone who posted here. The patch cleared all the problems I was experiencing, so I can now enjoy hours of mindless destruction as I detonate mechs, VTOL and armor into big chunky blocks. It is too bad that a new game taking the economy side of MW2: Mercs and marrying it to better graphics platrform is not available.

There's MW4: Mercs, which has much better graphics, although the gameplay isn't quite as good. (And for a BTecher, the mechlab is quite frightening.)
