I'm a really big user of Streak SRMs, to the point that I don't use standard SRMs at all when I'm designing a 'Mech. I just hate the idea of uselessly spewing missiles all over the place. Even in level one, I use medium lasers instead of SRMs. So the Streak LRM is a great thing to have. Their high weight is a problem, but they're no heavier than IS LRMs. If IS 'Mechs make do, then so can a Clan 'Mech. And an LRM 20 + Art IV and two tons ammo weighs the same as an SLRM 15 with a ton of ammo.

I already have configurations that use Streak LRMs for most of my omni mech designs.

It would make more sense than just wasting ammo if you miss. besides if you don't get a lock you don't build up heat and you don't waste ammo. _________________ A wise man speaks because he has something to say. A fool speaks because he must say something.

They are extremely dangerous. If they ever achieve wide deployment, the I.S. is in trouble. _________________ "The enemy's gate is down."

I have to concur. What's this "new" business. They've been around for a long time now and yes they rock. _________________ I know nothing.

It's one of the few level 3 pieces of equipment I think should be made level 2...provided that the IS got them that is

Well you know my opinion ... if you're going to have ATM's as level 2 might as well have streak LRMs as well. _________________ I know nothing.

IS Streak LRMs would be great. Probably really heavy, but great.
And I just figured out the answer to the problem of having to choose betweenf Streak LRMs and ATMs. The Clan Streak ATM. Pull a ton to get rid of the integral Artemis, than double the weight.

Streak LRMs are devastating, mount this on a Vulture. Slap on Endo-steel, lose the large pulses for a pair of ERLL and a pair of Streak 15s + 2.5 more tons of FF armor and the enemy can be in for a world of hurt.

I have a configuration of my 100 ton Apocalypse Omni that carries 4 streak LRM 20s and 2 Streak LRM 5s and enough ammo for 12 full salvos and several other configs. have Streak LRMs of various sizes with other weapons It also appears in my light designs

And now that I think about it, a Streak LRM 20 is lighter than either Clan AC/20, with more ammo per ton. Combine that with a long range, no min range, and no misses or wasted ammo, and you have a significantly superior weapon. The only drawback is that LRMs scatter damage, instead of putting it all in the same location like an AC.

All that and more. But the real question here is "why do we have Streak missiles"?
Why can't I have a laser that never misses? Or should I say a laser that doesn't fire if it's not a hit? They're much better for that kind of thing, aren't they? Speed of light as muzzle velocity, remember? Why not have a rangefinder function on it so the laser doesn't fire if the target isn't there?

A friend of mine who came up with his own group to play with, called the Sons of Kerensky, they had all their weapons using a Streak deal. Either they fired or they didn't if they didn't get a lock...a couple of the players in our group felt that this was really chessey but once they figured out a few tricks and started to use electronics and such it wasn't a big deal anymore.
The idea of not firing unless the computer has a lock, but with pilot being able to override it, is something that would be interesting depending on how it's done etc...
