Just wondering. Are the events unique to the MechWarrior computer games considered canon? In the Black Knight expansion pack, Duke Ian Dresari (of Kentares) becomes rather Katherine-like, and the mercs (your character) kill him. Does the rest of the BattleTech universe consider him dead?

Edited to make a clearer title.

I don't think most of the 5th Donegal Guards were wiped out by a lance of mechs on Kentares in canon...

True. But in MW4, in one of the early desert missions, there's a whole six 'Mechs!! You think they'd be enough?
According to FCCW, the Fifth Donegal was destroyed by a "not insignificant BattleMech force filled with ex-AFFC officers and Chaos March mercenaries."
All right then, Duke Dresari is still around then.

If its not in print, it's unlikely to be canon.
FCCW includes links to the MW4 game, but don't read too much in to the various mentions.

most of MW4 arent canon, even MW3 or Mechcommander 1.
Mechwarrior 2 Mercs can be considered slightly canon. Although i remember its was the Fedcom who sent the Wolf Dragoons and Kell Hounds to defend Luthien but if i were the coordinator, i would be throwing whatever i got to stop the clans.

There is no such thing as "slightly canon"...

I think it's more like Mechwarrior 2 Mercs is based on canon.

Mechwarrior 2 is the Refusal War between Jade Falcon and Wolf. The Lore presented by Clan Ghost bear (selected to be the Loremasters of the war) could be consindered cannon, as most of it was taken from the campain Refusal War.
Mechwarrior 2: Ghost Bear's Legacy is canon. The actions that took place in the game were slightly refrenced to in either Warden Clans or Invading Clans (Probably Warden). And, later texts confirm the timeline, though not the charactes exactly (identities and locations changed for the protection of security?)
Dont know the others...

Yeah, and MW2, the background texts of each mission are based on the Wolf and the Falcon scenario pack (plus excerpts from the Wolf and CJF sourcebooks)
(Which I thought was a great idea. It got me in to the game, and I've heard the same said by others in the past too.)
As such, the storyline of the MW2 missions are based on a scenario pack (although only loosely at best) while all other games tend to have their own storyline based loosely on the existing storyline.

So nothing done up by canon authors in say Battletechnology or Star Date would be canon even if it made to a TRO or source book then?
Prime example is the Flea mech was first in Star Date BEFORE being in the WOLF's DRAGOON sourcebook.

There is no such thing as "slightly canon"...it is a "yes" or "no" thing. If it made it to a TRO then the info in a TRO would be canon...no matter how you look at it it either "is" or "is not" canon material.

Absolutely correct.
To use the Flea example, the Flea would have been non-canon *until* it got published in the Wolf's Dragoons sourcebook.
To use another example, Randall Bills could write up a complete TRO of level 3 Mechs, and have it published in the New York Post, but not a letter of it would be canon until it would be published by Wizkids (or FanPro or BattleCorps)
Who wrote and where doesn't matter. NOTHING is canon until it's published in an official book/publication. Official magazines don't count. The words non and semi are not relevant.

Well while that might be true for some, a lot of folks take it that if someone contected with BT publishes something in say Battletechnology or Star Date or Star Drive (when those magazines were around) then it was good enough for them.
Also noting that at one time Star Date was a offical FASA approved magazine, and if my memory is correct they would publish errata or Q&A info in there for the game.
So let me ask this...the mechs on the 93/94 flyers that made the rounds at gaming conventions...are those offical or not? They were in a offical FASA published and approved item...
So it seems that we have a slight issue here as far as what makes it offical...is only in a TRO or in a company approved flyer or what have you...
