What's everyone's thoughts on it? I've highly enjoyed what I've seen so far...great revisioning of the series, IMHO...

I liked it too. But I think there's only the one squadron with about 20 vipers. How they going to much space combat if they don't find more birds and pilots from somewhere? Surely with all those battlestars, at least one of them was off schedule or turned and ran or something, what did they have 200 of them? And why didn't that weapons depot they got the ammo from in the pilot have a supply of fighters too? _________________ "Those who beat their guns into plows will plow for those with guns..." -Thomas Jefferson

Whoops. I forgot all about that one. And I wanted to watch it, too. What time is it on? The commercials for it looked pretty good; does the show match up?

Sci fi ran two episodes last night from 9 to 11...the normal time will be Friday nights at 10...
And the show is meeting my expectations and blowing them out of the water...that's how good it is so far...

From what I've seen so far, the show kicks ass big time. Though I didn't watch the original series way back when (too young) I think they have gotten into a tight spot here with the amount of fighters they have. Unless they have a lot more then they are showing. They are screwed big time.
The special effects are great, the story is awesome. and the cast was well chosen.
I'm looking forward to this one.

Since I'm a bit ahead of the US airing from downloading the UK versions I can tell you they are addressing the pilot problem. No hint on the viper/raptor issue so far.
It get better, that's all I'm going to say.

My understanding from the threads going on about the new BSG on the CBT boards from those that have seen almost all of the season so far...the new BSG is keeping VERY good internal consistency from episode to episode...fighters that fly, fight and are damaged or destroyed do not get replaced (as they cannot be apparently as yet), and of those that survive the damage given them, they retain evidence of that damage whenever not fully repaired...

I watched the old BSG at Christmas. I see things I like better and things I like less. I'm having a really hard time empathizing with Boomer, which made the Water episode hard to watch.
The effects are cool, though that "wide, zoom tight, handheld" shot is going to get old really fast. My prediction: that shot is going to be the most overused shot of the 21st century. It's like Hitchcock's "dolly in, Camera out" shot. It's cool the first time, but if you see it a lot, it looses it's charm.
The stories are compelling, the characters are real and I can relate to them (Lee Adama is going to be a favorite, and Starbuck is starting to grow on me). I like Colonel Tigh, and of course, how can you not like Edward James Olmos. The relationship between Adama and the President adds a dimension to the show the original lacked, which I like.
My understanding is that Viper fighting is going to be much more curtailed than in the original, this being more drama, less western. I like the scenes on occupied Caprica, but I fear that as Galactica gets farther away and Helo's rescue less likely, they are going to become frustrating.
Jury's still out on Baltar. The lack of an ubervillain like John Collicose is a loss, and I'm not sure how much I like monotheistic mystics as the Cylons, but it makes for an interesting story.
Short form: I like it. I'm not wild about it, but I'll watch it.
One note: I know it's impolitic to note this, but the original series was much more diverse than this one. Not meaning to slight our Hispanic and Asian friends, but a black XO and a black #3 in Blue Squadron combined with three women (four if you count Jane Seymore) trumps 1 Asian woman, 1 Hispanic man, and two other women. And the original series was done in 1978. _________________ "Politics is the Art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, misdiagnosing the problem, and applying the wrong solution."

Let's see the new version has more depth to it then the old one, but still in it's way pays homage to the old.
This one takes things along on a darker path and at the same time folks can relate more to the crew and their issues.
About the only thing I don't like is, no sister for Apollo (well not yet any ways) and the idea that the Cylons can track the Colonials so easally. That is a tad hard to accept, but it doesn't ruin the story or the show.
Over all it's a good show and one that has promise. Now if it can stick around for a couple of years...

I liked it but I see two things in it I have a problem with and wonder how they will deal with.
The original Galactica wound up fleeing with its full complement of Viper fighters, which if I recall was supposed to be well over 300 of them. And later on, Commander Cain of the Spartica? sent over his own Vipers, some or all of them, before doing the kamakazi on a couple of Cylon base ships. So the Adama had the means to defend the refugee fleet, short of the Galactica itself being destroyed, through a good bit of hard fighting.
But this time Adama's only got a score of Vipers? Sure the fleet is now 50 some ships instead of 200 plus. But he's got to mount a 24 hour patrol good enough to fight off a sudden attack. 1 shuttle and 2 Vipers just don't cut it for that if you see what I mean. For one thing, he hasn't even got enough pilots to mount recon missions or cover the rear... or the flanks... or top and bottom. They really should have and hopefully will arrange for Adama to get his hands on more birds if not more pilots.
The 2nd thing is this Cylon death thing. They die, and the other identical versions know all about it....even when they are on another freaking planet? If the Cylon tech is that freaking advanced to allow instant full mind transfers in a fraction of a second across interstellar light years of distance why didn't they wander off to rule the universe instead of hanging around the colonies screwing with the puny inferior humans? _________________ "Those who beat their guns into plows will plow for those with guns..." -Thomas Jefferson

I think they still have some of the advanced fighters but fear to use them since the Cyclons have there elint warfare to a level to allow it to take over the Viper MkVII or is MkIVs? databases and controls. The SciFi webpage has some more on this issue.
Also it allows them to bring in some of the campy stuff from the original. Acting got better and the story is less pushed thus they need something that has some campiness and thus the use of teh older vipers and such is there way of doing it.

Good point...but then again the Jedi can sense things from far away and Obi-wan seems to be able to tell that Alderran was blown up and the Emproer was able to jump into a new body etc...it's SciFi so something has to be on the hard to buy end of things other wise it wouldn't be all the fun to watch.

Adama also has more than just the two Vipers and a shuttle. "Water" indicates he has at least five Raptors and 33 indicated he has at least an entire squadron of Vipers (probably a composite of the MarkIV and the MarkVIIs). And who knows what else he pulled off Ragnarok we haven't seen yet. The previews for next week indicate he pulled a couple of Nukes.
Necessary equipment for Gallactica is a little like R2-D2's buzz saw. No one knows he has it until the heroes need it. _________________ "Politics is the Art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, misdiagnosing the problem, and applying the wrong solution."

It the Star Wars Universe, all that was explained away. THe Force connected evey living thing in the Universe together. Here we aretalking about cold hard Physics, even if it is way into the future and Science Fiction. The fact that such complicated information can be instantly transmitted across such a vast distance is prepoperous, even for the technologically superior Cylons. Just my two cents on that matter.

When the Galactica was over Caprica in the original series, Tigh leans over the flight officer and asks how many ships had come in. She reported, \"67 fighters in all sir. 25 of our own.\"
This would not include Apollo\'s fighter, but then again, Starbuck crashed his...so, say they can repair Starbuck\'s...if they don\'t gain any additional fighters from the Colonies, they leave with only 68 fighters...remember...the Galactica was the only Battlestar to launch fighters prior to the Cylon attack...any others had to launch while taking fire...

Cain's Pegasus might have been able to give Adama double his fighters...maybe...Cain had also been fighting the Cylons for years, and had a lot less capability to replace damaged or destroyed fighters or lost pilots...

He had at least a full squadron of Mark 2 Vipers (and who knows how big a Colonial Squadron is? From all evidence it\'s at least what we would call a wing in size)...plus any of the Mark 5\'s that had been refitted (for instance, Apollo\'s Mark V is apparently refitted)...Also, don\'t knock the Raptor...it\'s a pretty bad ass electronics warfare and scout craft...
What the original had going for them was that they had agricultural ships to grow food and factory ships to build new Vipers...so far, we have not seen the same in this fleet...

Aside from a lot of gratuitous suck face it is pretty good. There are a couple of personalities that have serious issues they are dealing with (baltar and boomer) and I like the way the show isn't so goody goody.
They are doing a good job remaining faithful to the basic reality. I wish they wouldn't jump around so much tracking storylines tho'. It would be better spending 5 minutes on each part per installment, rather than blipping on it 5 times for a minute per installment.
