This one is the toughest poll of the lot!! It contains A) everyone’s favourite medium ‘mech; B) two of my top ‘mechs of this TRO (EXcluding A); and C) the Hatchetman. Yeah, I guess loon’s favourite ‘mech….
The Blackjack is godly. It carries a lot of armour, and carries a double set of the longest-reaching gun in that era. The AC2, which also qualifies as the most hated weapon. But once these start plinking away at the enemy, maybe even causing some head-hits (I’ve had surprising luck with that), the enemy will tend to rush at you. Forgetting that with 4 ML, this design also has the close-range punch of an AC20!! No, really, the Blackjack rocks. And that it does so while investing 13 tons into the potential to cause 4 damage makes it all the more amazing!
The Hatchetman…. To me, it always had a hugely inflated image. Ok, it has the myth of being the first hatchet-wielding design out there. But really, it is an ill-suited frame to put it on. It has the worst armour out of the 45-tonners. It isn’t especially fast. It actually has a really good medium-range weapon. This design I have hardly used at all. And I have always found it to be an easy picking when facing it. When the TRO first came out, hatchets had not been invented yet. To represent it, the design came with 3 additional heat sinks, making this one of the most over-sinked designs in that volume. Just a little bit of trivia on the side….
The P-Hawk. You guys can all tell me how much you love it. How it was your first ride. How I suck for thinking it sucks. Yeah, that’s right. Strong armour, good speed. Weak armour on the head (how many of these have I seen, going down to headshots…)! Good guns? Not really. Too fast, I reckon. When jumping, it can fire 2 ML and 2 MG at close range. Or a LL when running. Or it overheats badly, which actually isn’t much of a problem, with its great jump movement. Dunno, this is a very subjective thing, I just loathe this design.
The Vindie makes this such a tough nut to decide on. It has wonderful armour, decent guns and a perfect amount of heat sinks, meaning it can stay very mobile, despite not being very fast and carrying a PPC. And it has something in its head! Very comforting to its pilot (unless you go by the fluff, where the ejection seat would occasionally collide with that ML….). I don’t have to interpret much with this one – it is very, very good. However, it also costs a fantastic 900 pts in terms of BV, 103 more points than a Rifleman….
The Blackjack and the Vindie are two of my favourite designs ever. I like the protection the Vindie affords. And that 10-damage PPC punch. But the Blackjack is more overlooked, which can be a decided advantage. It is also very powerful and costs less (795 or something, I think), which makes it ultimately an even better ride!

I would be willing to take on any of the other three mechs listed in this with a Pheonix hawk. I'd be real surprised if I lost.

Would be nice if he was asking for what 3050+ 45 tonner, but he is talking about 3025 tech...no pulse lasers, no electronics no fancy tech...

Hard to pick...all have their place and usage for their weight...
I am going to have to go with Vindicator. Mainly because it's one of those that is there and has that I have been here forever feel.

I have to agree with Pin. The Phawk is great. good mix of weapons and speed.

I'll go for the vindicator.
Its not fast, its not fancy. But its still quite mobile and packs a real punch for something this size.
It's also capable of doing many tasks, save perhaps scouting and assaults.

Definitely the Phoenix Hawk. You can wear any of the others down with a series of hit and run attacks from the Hawk.
The Blackjack is my second choice. The ACs let you keep up a constant barrage and four medium lasers can carve up anything that gets too close.

I chose the Vindicator. Maybe it's my affiliation, maybe i'm just like that. I like the Vindicator. It's a rugged and flexible design. It's not as fast as the P-Hawk, but it is a capable design. _________________ If ignorance is bliss, then why are you so miserable?

Phoenix Hawk. I like speed in a medium mech. They've got precious little else keeping them from harm.

I'd say the blackjack. Its useful in a bunch of ways. A long way harrassing design, plus its fast enough to be used in a lot of ways due to the jump jets. It can double as a light weight anti air craft design with the AC 2s, and the quad of medium lasers force you to respect it in close.
The heavy armour and the ability to flip my arms have saved me more than once to boot.
