Do you think that the Inner Sphere should invest money into duplicating this technology?

Do you think the technology more complicated then a clan ER laser?

If the IS could cheeply replicate this technology, do you consider it worthy to put on your IS mechs in place of a standard ML?

1.No. Not really worth it. Focus on new technologies instead

2. I should think that its more complicated than an ER Laser... more power output through the same space and all that.

3. Nope.

1. Only if it seems likely it can be done.

2. Most definately. They're bulkier, but it can't be easy to put that much damage through the same amount of tonnage.

3. Hell yes. Even if they were the weight of IS pulse lasers. Especially if they had the same range and damage.

Edit:
Just to make sure. A heavy laser's +1 to targeting is fluffed as interference from the weapon which degrades targeting system effectiveness, right?

Edit 2:
Now that I think of it, I'm not sure how useful the heavy medium would be if it weighed two tons. Then two standard mediums would be just as good. All right then, scratch the comment about pulse laser tonnages.

I have had mixed results with Heavy Lasers while the do more damage the high heat, Short Range, and inherent inaccuracy off set that ,I have used them on Hellions and Blizzards. And have found them to be erratic in performance

the high heat and bulk of heavy lasers wont be effective for the Innersphere.

Remember IS dhs are larger which is another problem.

IS should focus more on their ballistic (missiles, ac and gauss ) weaponary and Xpulse technology.

Which would you prefear?

4 ML

or

2 Heavy ML with TC or DHS and 1 ton to play with.

Several IS designs could benifit from these IMHO. The Jenner example above is just one of them.

wait so u mean u want IS heavy lasers to be on par in terms of weight and tonnage to the regular lasers?

does not feel right, it should be at least 2 tons for the medium, 1 ton for the small and 7 tons for the large. Also heavy mediums without a TC is a mixed bag, at least the old meds are reliable.

Well, I do assume I'm allowed to do this, right chihawk?

HSL: 1 crit, .5 tons, 3 heat, 6 damage

HML: 2 crits, 1 ton, 7 heat, 10 damage

HLL: 3 crits, 4 tons, 18 heat (I sh*t you not), 16 damage

All are at +1 to hit.

They have the same range as the standard lvl1 IS counterparts.

And just my opinion: their low range, inaccuracy and high heat make them next to useless when compared to other clan weaponry.

Compared to the IS armoury, they might be more viable.

That is the idea behind them. Your suggestion of weight defeats the whole point of the weapon. I feel that the +1 and slighterly higher height are more then enough backdraw to the higher energy output.

im not too sure if this ever made it but there is the Advanced Heavy Laser.

Lvl3 tech. Advanced Heavy lasers weigh an additional 0.5 tons over their regular heavies but do not have the inherent inaccuracy and cost 2 times more.

If the IS wanted to duplicate Clan Lasers, they should try to make the regular Clan ERs cheap enough to mass produce. Heavy Lasers fit best on Clan Machines where there is more heat disipation and they are usually loaded with other types of weopons. Plus the fluff of the heavy lasers made it sound like they were hard for Star Adder to design in the first place. They should work on duplicated ATMs if anything.

Nah, work on the fleets instead. Clanners that can't move their forces around aren't dangerous. Obliterate their fleets, then use orbital bombardment on any planet-bound military targets. It might not be stylish, but if you win it's fair.
