What happened to Listen-Kill missiles? In the game Battletech: The Crescent Hawk's Revenge, one of the missions revolved around extracting a valuable stash of L-K Missiles before the base containing them was overrun, because the missiles had some kind of super-homing ability other missiles didn't. Are they still around, or did they get phased out? I ask becuase I see no mention of them in my copy of the Battletech Master Rules ('98 version, in case there are others). _________________ Evil is like a bowl of oranges. I'm pretty sure thats just something added to the video game. Unless it was meant to represent the Arrow IV Homing Missile.

No, it wasn't an artillery missile. The way I understood from the in-game explanation, the missiles homed in on the noises of a fusion reactor. _________________ Evil is like a bowl of oranges. Well, these things are one of the phantoms of the world of fluff.
There were many mysterious references to them in old fluff, speaking lvl1 days. Didn't actually know about the Crescent Hawk thing.
Bottom line: actual rules, to my knowledge, were never released.

The listen kill missiles were homing style warheads. In the new book Historials War of 3039 they talk about them and give you game stats and such on them. Suggest you get this book.
They are not artillery missile or anything really speical and basic ECM blocks them.

Wow, so they did finally get round to doing something with them on the tabletop?!
Well, can anyone post a description of their game rules? I usually get my stuff at an online store which will let older stuff drop in price dramatically - so I tend to be 1-2 years behind the newest stuff!!

If i recall correctly.
Fluffwise, LK missiles were used for a bit by the FedSuns against the Draconis Combine.. i believe this was during the 3039.. fortunately, my countrymen were able to figure out how to counter the missiles and started using them against the Fedrats
The Fedrats of course did the same and i believe that's the reason LK missiles went out of favour.
No rules i remember of though...
(maybe because i don't have them... lalala..)
Edit, not fourth... 3039..
If the following is right..
http://www.btencyclopedia.com/chrono/3026-3049
3038
Listen-Kill Long-Range Missile and Short-Range Missile systems developed in Federated Commonwealth
3040 (mid)
Draconis Combine develops Listen-Kill Long-Range Missile countermeasures.
3042
Draconis Combine gives Listen-Kill missiles and Electronic Counter-Measures systems to Capellan Confederation.

Wow, thanks for that, Vagabond. I think I may have to invest into that book very soon. I would love to have addtional rules for prototype DHS, which I could apply to old scenarios (in the Supergriffin, for instance!).

I wonder why they don't work against Clan-tech? Surely it wouldn't be too much trouble to adapt the missile to listen for Clan-made engines?

i assume because the Clan advances in tech have baffled and jammed the mechanisms the L-K Missiles track. This advance is most likely, IMHO, in Sensor and Jamming tech of the standard clan sensor.
