O.K. I was a little slow in getting the money up but I paid their bill yesterday...Today I gets this phone call telling me that if I do not pay my phone bill they are cutting it off at midnight...I tell them I paid it yesterday at one of there payment centers in a nearby supermarket they Tell me that they have no record I tell them I have the receipt it took a little time to find it but I find it and read him the receipt # he says they do not have it and they are going to cut my phone off I tell them it is paid he tells me to pay a $100 reconnect fee in the morning I tell him the Damn Bill has been paid like 30 hours ago He says I have to pay it again I Tell him I do not have the money and the bill is already paid anyways.he says that I have to pay a reconnect fee but he will be nice and cut it to $50 I tell him that the bill is already paid He says that it is still going to be cut off but he Will be nice and cut it to $25 and throw in free long distance I tell him that I only use this phone for Internet and do not want long distance and besides I PAID THE GD BILL AND THEY HAVE NO RIGHT TO CUT IT OFF he tells me that they are still cutting it off at midnight I tell him that if they do I am going to go to a different carrier He says that my phone is still being cut off ...Tomorrow I am calling them from a friends phone who is also a customer and if they do not make me happy ...BOTH of us will switch carriers...Plus I am posting my story all over the Internet

I have SBC too, been thinking of getting rid of it, I hardly use the phone and this vonage thing I keep seeing looks at least 10 bucks cheaper.
That and damned SBC computer calls me every damned day without fail to try and sell me more crap. I get out of bed at 10 AM and I'm getting real damn tired of hearing the phone go off at 8:30 and 9 AM and I'm already on the do not call list.

How evil do you want to be?
Did you get his name and employee number? If you did, you can lodge complaints against him (even if nothing comes out of it, it'll cause the company's legal department, and him in particular, some headaches). If you talk to a lawyer, I'm sure he could come up with some kind of litigation you can bring against them. AND, as a final insult, you can take your buisiness elsewhere.
If companies give me headaches for no reason at all, I return the favor. Manyfold. }

Look on the bright side, atleast you have a choice to switch, for our home phone service we have a government monitored monopoly here, if they or you screw up, thats it, you either move or pay the bill (again). Granted I have no complaints about Altell and have both my home and cell phone through them and they have at times bent over backwards for me and on my cell phone I have never, ever, EVER lost a call... except for the time the tower fell over but thats a Darn good excuse if you ask me.

There is probably a monopoly in Beatrice because nobody else wants to try to make money out there. Too few customers.

gee how'd you guess? town of 13,000 where roughly 60% of the populace is over 65 years old there just isn't room for "the new guy" however cell bussiness is booming.
and just an aside Beatrice is pronounced Bee-at-ris as opposed to bea-tris OR Beat Rice

I used to live in Papillion and now work for the phone company that covers such thriving metropolis' as Bayard, Broadwater and Lyman. I have driven up and down I-80 more times that I wish to count.

Well apparently while the Collections department did not know about the payment the people in charge of service did because I was not shut off after all.But I did blister the hell out of that guys ear.
