Quick question. We all know about how Victor replaced the dead Joshua Marik with an imposter, and how this caused the Marik-Liao invasion of 3057. I don't have any of the novels between Blood of Kerensky and Twilight of the Clans. So does anyone know if the imposter thing was made general knowledge in the Inner Sphere, specifically in the Federated Suns? Or was it kept secret, known only to the important people?

I am missing some of the novels but as far as I know they also found out that Marik was the imposter as well. But other than that I think it died there and was never taken any further.

Marik as in Thomas Marik? Yes, I always wondered why that was never taken anywhere. Victor should have outed him, but this was near the beginning of his wussification. Apparently, Victor thought Thomas Marik (the imposter) was too good a ruler to reveal his identity, or lack thereof.
But that's not what I was talking about. I meant Victor's plan to replace Joshua Marik with a double. The boy who died in the NAIS while undergoing treatment for cancer. This plan was dscovered by Liao, and passed on to Marik. And used as the reason for the war in 3057, during which Katie seceded the Lyran half of the FedCom. Victor and "Thomas Marik" discussed it in a lodge on Tharkad in Grave Covenant. But I don't know if it ever became general knwledge in the Inner Sphere. I need to know if the average citizen of the Inner Sphere would know that this had happened.

I think they get to this in Dork Age, but I've not looked at it thoroughly.

Nope. Hanse died right after Tukayyid, in 3052 I think. It was supposed to be Hanse's plan though, which Victor implemented. Although somehow I think that Hanse would have known not to try, or known not to get caught.

Okay from what I recall, Victor and some his top agents and friends know that the current Thomas Marik isn't a Mairk at all.
Beyond that, Suz Tzu may supsect as migth a few others but the public in general doesn't knows.

I think I have read just about every novel published, with the exception of one or two of the very very first ones. Victor found out that the current Thomas Marik, wasn't Marik at all, but he and his closest advisors came to the decision that he was too valuable to oust. As for the Joshua Marik Double fiasco, only a handful of people outside victors circle knew about it, the Liao agents who uncovered te plot, Sun Tzu and Thomas Marik are about the only other people who knew. Theodore and Katherine might have been told as well, but I can't recall for sure. The general public was never made aware of what happened.

Then explain the whole part of Bred for War or was it the book after that, where Mairk invaded the FedCom to take back worlds AFTER he found out that his son wasn't his son and I do believe he announced this IS wide via the HPG net PRIOR or just after attacks by FWLM forces on FedCom worlds.

If he did, then I stnd corrected, I'm just going by memory. Its been a long time since I read the novels.
Maybe I should reread them again in chronological order. Sounds like fun anyway.

And the real Thomas Marik is apparently still alive because in in the second book of Coleman's FedCom Civil War trilogy. during the Star League Conference Word of Blake is being framed for something, I don't remember what but I think that it had something to do with money, and the WoB repersentive and the fake Thomas Marik are decussing it and they say that it must be the real Thomas Marik who's doing it. _________________ "All it takes for evil to prevail is for good to do nothing."

The new Handbook: House Steiner (which I've just gotten) has excerpts from Marik's speech telling the Inner Sphere about the imposter thing, along with Katie's secession speech and little Victor's speech admittting to the imposter thing.
