I saw this movie on saturday, and laughed my ass off. I've never read the book, so I don't know how "faithful" it is, but the movie is highly recommended.

I don't think it really matters how faithful it is, as from what I understand, each version (novel, radio, original British tv and/or movie) has been different in some ways...

I've read the books several times and from the previews it was off some. Did they show the whale? That was hilariously awesome!!!

I am so torn with this one. I desperately want to see it, but having watched the old british version have my doubts. There are some things I really like. the visiuals are wonderful from the previews. My concern is the birtish version was a 6 part miniseries and over 3 hours in length. The new version is only 2ish. I most likley will see it but I am debating on weather I want to see it on the big screen (and be annoyed at how much they cut out), or rent it (and be annoyed that I didnt see it on the big screen).
sigh
Decisions, decisions.

It's a great movie, and probably deeper than you'd think. It doesn't take itself seriously at all, which is good, given the subject matter. Fall down hilarious, and yes, it has the whale. That's one of the parts I think is deeper than you'd think...
And I don't mean the crater. _________________ "Politics is the Art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, misdiagnosing the problem, and applying the wrong solution."

Oh no, not this again...
Yes it has the petunias
Although there were a few things missing, all in all I think it was a well done and very enjoyable movie and I highly reccemend it. _________________ "I love deadlines. I especially love the 'whooshing' sound they make as they fly by" ~ Douglass Adams Happiness is biting your bird back.

Of course it doesnt take itself seriously...thats half the point behind the 5 books in the trilogy.

You'd be surprised the movies that are comedies which take themselves so seriously that they cease to be funny. Parody maybe, but not funny.
Would someone explain to the fool why five books are called a trilogy and not pentalogy? _________________ "Politics is the Art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, misdiagnosing the problem, and applying the wrong solution."

It's a trilogy of five books because that is the way it is.
Take the title to the fifth books:
"Mostly Harmless:
The fifth book in the increasingly inaccuately named Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Trilogy"

Heck, the Xanth series by Piers Anthony was originally called a trilogy. It was renamed a series after the 8th book.

Alas, there will be no 8 Hitchhiker novels, or 6 for that matter.

I figured, given the author, that there was a joke in there somewhere.
The most annoying thing to me is my 1st edition of Children of Dune, which blairs out: the thrilling conclusion of the Dune Trilogy.
It's right next to my 1st edition God Emperor of Dune, the exciting conlcusion of the the Dune Quadrology.
By Chapterhouse Dune they've given up the pretext that there's an end to the story. _________________ "Politics is the Art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, misdiagnosing the problem, and applying the wrong solution."

Well, if there are more, they wont be the same, as Douglas Adams died in May of 2001.
Well, they say he died. I still think he just went home...
