Are they important or are the stats and fluff more important?
Does the name matter that much or is it the name combined with what the mech does out on the battlefield the important factor?

The stats, of course, are the most important. If a mech mounts 4 clan large pulses, a TC, an ATM12 with 6 tons ammo and it can move 5/8/5 with max armor for its tonnage, the fact that it is named FluffyLoveBunny does not make it any less fierce. {BTW, I have dibs on that name so no one go using it }
A good name does not hurt, though. Generally I like to name a mech based on its role or, if I'm feeling weird, something quirky.
As someone who is not an RPG'er I assign the least amount of value to fluff. It's nice to have but not real necessary.

Order of Priority:
1. Stats. This is what makes a mech, irregardless of how the designer came about creating it.
2. Name. A good name doesn't hurt, but it would appear that the creators are having to venture farther to get them.
3. Fluff. Fluff really doesn't matter past where the machine is made, who makes it, who has it, and how fast these things get cranked out.

irregardless means the exact opposite of what you think it does...it's a double negative
Other than that I agree.

P.S. G, we can do without FluffyLove. He was Pain then and I'm sure he's a pain now...

A good name is certainly important, who
would want to pilot the Scrapheap?
That`s exactly what I named a particularly
nasty level 1 Quickdraw refit. Only energy
weapons, lots of heatsinks and real armor.
Giving the mech a name that mirrors it`s
function is always a good bet, although you
have to look quite far away for the popular
words nowadays. Missile weapon mechs get a
missile unit/weapon name for example. _________________ A tree fall in the forest, and no one is around, and it hits a mime. Does anyone care?

True Samurai MechWarriors do not pilot Mechs with silly names. We have honor and will not tarnish it with such foolishness! That is why we pilot Panthers,Dragons,Katanas,Thunderbols and Shoguns. We will never be seen in any fluffybunny or "Ewok" mechs.....never!
